Introduction

Prince William County Division of Risk & Wellness Services is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health & Safety Manager to lead and oversee environmental compliance, safety programming, and employee wellness initiatives. This role serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and acts as the primary liaison between departments, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure full legal compliance and organizational safety excellence.

About This Role:

  • Provides strategic planning in the areas of environmental compliance, safety programming, and wellness initiatives for county-wide operations with a focus on injury prevention and loss control.
  • Provides executive-level support and expertise on community programs and issues.
  • Provides direct oversight and management of one management position and eight professional positions.
  • Administers, reviews, and manages contracts and proposals related to wellness, safety, and environmental programs.
  • Oversees Occupational Health program and contracted services, including wellness and coaching services.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal departments and external stakeholders, providing consultation on safety and environmental issues and legal compliance.
  • Serves as the primary environmental expert and advisor on environmental regulatory issues for the Board of County Supervisors and management.
  • Prepares, administers, and manages departmental budgets; develops cost estimates for budget recommendations and submits estimates for budget items.
  • Manages and supervises wellness programming and associated staff.
  • Ensures organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D and 8 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety program management.

Preferences:

  • The ideal candidate will have a degree in environmental science, safety, occupational health, risk management, or a related scientific or technical field;
  • Demonstrated experience managing and supervising staff, including developing performance measures, conducting evaluations, providing training, and making recommendations for hiring, discipline, and termination.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement environmental health and safety (EHS) programs that achieve compliance goals within departmental budget constraints.
  • Proven experience in preparing, administering, and managing departmental budgets.
  • Experience conducting loss claim investigations and developing effective loss prevention programs.
  • Experience overseeing and directing comprehensive wellness programs with a strong emphasis on injury prevention.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with executive leadership to formulate and deliver formal recommendations.

Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and occasionally lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds.

Hiring Salary: $104,500.50 - $156,223.77 Annually
