Job Summary

The Senior Engineering Manager – Sustaining Engineering is responsible for operating and delivering the sustaining engineering function. This role owns the day to day execution, throughput, and quality of post launch engineering work, ensuring timely, compliant, and cost effective delivery in alignment with lifecycle priorities set by the Director of Engineering. This role is the execution leader for sustaining engineering and the primary point of accountability for intake, delivery performance, and team effectiveness.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

Sustaining Execution Ownership

  • Own execution of all sustaining engineering activities, including product changes, issue resolution, and compliance‑driven updates
  • Ensure sustaining work is delivered with speed, quality, and regulatory compliance
  • Manage day‑to‑day tradeoffs within established priorities and escalate conflicts as needed

Operating System Leadership

  • Own sustaining intake, triage, and execution workflows
  • Establish and manage execution cadence, capacity planning, and delivery metrics
  • Drive predictable delivery and continuous improvement of sustaining processes

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop sustaining engineering team members
  • Translate portfolio priorities into executable plans and clear individual objectives
  • Ensure appropriate technical rigor, documentation, and design control adherence

Cross‑Functional Execution

  • Partner with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Supply Chain to execute sustaining changes
  • Support margin improvement initiatives through execution of approved cost‑reduction projects
  • Provide accurate data, forecasts, and risk assessments to support Director‑level decisions

Success Measures

  • On‑time, compliant delivery of sustaining engineering work
  • Stable and predictable sustaining throughput
  • Reduction in unplanned disruptions and reactive work
  • Positive feedback from Quality, Operations, and Commercial partners

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline; advanced degree preferred

Work Experience

  • Minimum 6+ years of engineering experience

  • At least 4 years of experience managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating and directing people as they work.

  • Demonstrated experience in medical device, regulated healthcare manufacturing, or equivalent FDA/ISO‑regulated industry

Preferred Qualifications:

Education

  • Master's degree (MS/MBA)

Work Experience

  • Minimum 10–12 years of progressive engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing environment

  • Minimum 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing managers and/or senior technical leaders

  • Strong execution mindset with experience operating in regulated environments
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver through teams
  • Strong working knowledge of design controls, change management, validation, and QMS requirements

The anticipated salary range for this position:

$134,000.00 - $201,000.00 Annual

The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
