Senior Electromechanical Tooling Engineer (Hydraulics & Pneumatics)

Home base: Rancho Cordova, CA — Tri Tool HQ
Organization: Engineering | Role type: Full-time | People leadership: None

Imagine this

You’re handed a challenge: build a compact, reliable tool that can machine a critical tube weld prep on-site. You map the BOM, pick materials and coatings, run a quick strength check, and lock in cost-appropriate tolerances. Next, you size a servo, choose a solenoid, and add a pneumatic actuator. By afternoon, you’re in the shop assembling a prototype, verifying tolerances with gauges, and documenting updates in Info Syteline. That’s a typical win here.

Core functions (essential)

  1. Architect mechanical tools, fixtures, components, and subassemblies for industrial pipe and tube machining and welding applications.
  2. Generate manufacturing/assembly drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups in SolidWorks per ASME Y14.5M.
  3. Engineer across the full stack: BOM structure, materials selection, strength of materials, static thermodynamic environments, surface treatments, fasteners/joining, manufacturability, and tolerance/cost tradeoffs.
  4. Specify and integrate AC/DC motors, servo motors, solenoids, and linear/rotary actuators.
  5. Design pneumatic and hydraulic systems including cylinders, valves, regulators, hoses, and fittings.
  6. Own data integrity in the ERP (Info Syteline): components, revisions, and manufacturing BOMs.
  7. Independently drive medium and large projects with minimal guidance to on-time completion.
  8. Contribute to proposals with equipment cost and risk analyses.
  9. Assemble, test, and iterate prototypes hands-on in an R&D shop environment.
  10. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Must-have qualifications

  • 5+ years’ professional experience in mechanical design, drafting, fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical tools or systems; or Master’s in engineering with 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Proven proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD/drafting software.
  • Working mastery of GD&T and correct application.
  • Rigorous attention to detail and completeness; relentless focus on schedule.

Preferred expertise

  • Design for Additive Manufacturing and AM process development.
  • Portable/in situ industrial tooling design.
  • CNC machine design and mechanisms.
  • Consumable metal cutting tool design (end mills, indexable inserts/holders, turning tools, etc.).
  • Custom industrial equipment and tooling design.

Education

  • BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
  • MS preferred.

Physical capabilities

Lift/move up to 50 lbs without assistance; over 50 lbs requires help. Wear PPE as required. Regularly speak and hear; frequently sit, stand, stoop, squat, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel, and reach with hands/arms. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and engineering products. Use office tools including computers, multi-line phones, scanners, copiers, and paper cutters.

Work setting

Office/cubicle environment with mild noise; may include off-site field work. Occasional travel to other Tri Tool sites or client locations. Shop/plant work at times with moderate to loud noise—PPE required. Collaborate with peers, leaders, and customers. Work may exceed 8 hours/day and/or 40 hours/week as needed.
