Lead the build, test, and upkeep of sophisticated systems

Step into a senior hands-on role where complex electronics, precision mechanics, and optics intersect. As a Senior Electro-Opto-Mechanical Systems Technician, you will guide project teams, bring intricate assemblies to life, and safeguard performance through expert troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance.

What a typical day looks like

  • Plan and lead the assembly of advanced electronic, mechanical, and optical subsystems into fully functional units.
  • Perform and oversee deep-dive fault isolation, repair, and system bring-up.
  • Execute precise calibrations and functional tests; verify results using standard laboratory and metrology equipment.
  • Analyze data, interpret test outcomes, and produce thorough reports with recommendations.
  • Partner with engineers on research and development efforts, from prototypes to pilot builds.
  • Author and implement safety protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure operational excellence.

Must-have qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a technician or in a closely related technical role.
  • Fluency in reading mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Hands-on proficiency with standard lab test gear, measurement instruments, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and sustain complex systems.

Preferred background

  • Experience and/or certifications in aerospace and defense.
  • Background in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of 3‑D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or similar).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline.
  • Extensive R&D project experience and proven technical leadership.
  • Familiarity with aircraft test instrumentation, including strain gauges and accelerometers.
  • Basic understanding of communication protocols such as 1553, ARINC 429, CAN Bus, and Ethernet.

Essential functions and work environment

  • Lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Stand for extended portions of the work shift.
  • Use fine motor skills to handle and assemble small components.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and loud environments.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Education

Associate's degree in a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for required education; without a degree, a minimum of 5 years of related experience is required. A higher-level relevant degree may substitute for experience.

Tools, technologies, and domains you will touch

  • Electronic and mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Laboratory and measurement equipment for calibration and test.
  • Hand and power tools for precision assembly and rework.
  • Instrumentation: strain gauges, accelerometers, aircraft test hardware.
  • Digital communications: 1553, ARINC 429, CAN Bus, Ethernet.
