About the Company: NIRSense is a cardiology company focused on developing world-leading non-invasive medical devices. Our tools measure oxygenation changes in the body 10x deeper than typical pulse oximetry and track the electrophysiological activity of muscles and the brain. We are a growing team of technology developers seeking candidates interested in helping advance our capabilities for a wide range of interested stakeholders who are driven to transform the way humans understand and interact with their own health. Job Summary: NIRSense is seeking an experienced senior electrical engineer to join our engineering and scientific team on a contract basis in its Morrisville, NC office. Working alongside our internal engineers, this person will support hardware development across NIRSenses product portfolio, with a primary focus on bringing up new board designs and troubleshooting battery-powered embedded systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who is comfortable in the lab, has taken multiple battery-powered products from first power-on through a working system, and can diagnose and resolve hardware issues across power, analog, and mixed-signal domains. Compensation: The engagement rate will be commensurate with the successful applicants experience. Hours: Contract Travel: 0-5% Minimum Qualifications:

5+ years of hands-on electrical engineering experience, with significant focus on battery-powered embedded or wearable systems. Demonstrated experience bringing up new PCB designs from first power-on through a functioning system. Strong lab troubleshooting skills to isolate and resolve hardware faults. Hands-on expertise with design and integration of miniaturized electronics. Working knowledge of mixed-signal circuit design. Proficiency in Altium Designer. Ability to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team and communicate findings clearly. B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience designing new circuits and subsystems from concept through working hardware. Experience evaluating dev kits and designing test/breakout boards to de-risk new ICs. Ability to read and write embedded C to debug hardware/firmware integration. Experience with rigid, flex, and rigid-flex designs. Familiarity with BLE-enabled microcontrollers (e.g., Nordic nRF series). Experience with battery management and low-power design. Experience working with PCB fabricators and contract manufacturers.

Job Responsibilities:

Bring up new prototype PCBs and troubleshoot battery-powered embedded systems. Design new circuits and subsystems, and evaluate dev kits and test boards to de-risk new ICs. Review and revise schematics and PCB layouts. Debug hardware/firmware integration alongside firmware and software engineers. Characterize and optimize power consumption and battery management for portable and wearable platforms. Coordinate with PCB fabricators and contract manufacturers, and document findings to support the team. Report to the Electrical Engineering R&D Manager.
