Position Overview:As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will utilize your design and analytical skills to develop products from concept to production. The new product development team designs innovative products for the card personalization business. Your experience with embedded hardware design, embedded firmware development, prototyping, debugging, coordinating with vendors, and interfacing with manufacturing organizations will be key to success in this role. In this role, you will work in a fast‑paced environment that values hands‑on problem solving, rapid iteration, and continuous improvement through the evaluation of new technologies and tools. You will have the opportunity to develop electronics used in printing, smart card, RFID, motion control, and laser technologies.Responsibilities:Design, schematic capture, and prototype microcontroller and microprocessor‑based productsDesign and develop complex embedded systems involving mixed‑signal design, high‑speed interfaces, and integration across hardware and firmware domainsDevelop or support firmware and/or FPGA designsLead board bring‑up, debugging, and root cause analysis of hardware issues, with the ability to independently drive issues to resolutionTest and verify new designsLead or support transition of designs into productionContribute to identification of emerging technologies and support technical direction within assigned projectsWork with vendors and sourcing to define technical requirements for components and subsystemsDesign to and support qualification of products to applicable regulatory standards such as UL, FCC, and CECreate and execute test plans for hardware and software validationDesign and implement test fixtures to verify circuit board and system functionality for production testingMentor junior engineers, technicians, and interns on design practices and debugging techniquesBasic Qualifications:Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering5+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, schematic capture, layout, and board bring‑up, with demonstrated progression in ownership and technical responsibilityDemonstrated ability to independently design, bring up, debug, and deliver embedded hardware systems or major subsystemsStrong experience in analog and digital circuit design including DC/DC power supplies and common digital interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, USB)Experience developing in C/C++ and/or VHDL or VerilogAbility to work effectively with cross‑functional teams including engineers, lab technicians, product management, and manufacturingMust be able to lawfully work within the US and have unrestricted work authorizationPreferred Qualifications:Experience with EE design tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics)Experience with FPGA development tools (e.g., Xilinx, Microsemi, Intel/Altera)Experience with smart card, RFID, NFC, printing, or motion control systemsWorking knowledge of project management concepts (timelines, costs, requirements, resources)7+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, schematic capture, layout, and board bring‑upDemonstrated ownership of delivering high‑quality designs with a focus on reliability, performance, and manufacturabilityCuriosity and initiative in evaluating new technologies, tools, and design approaches, and applying them to improve development speed, product performance, or test efficiencyExperience working in fast‑paced development environments with a rapid, iterative approach to design and debugging while maintaining engineering rigorOpenness to adopting modern development tools, including AI‑assisted tools, to improve design efficiency, debugging, and documentation workflowsWhere you will be:Minneapolis, MN, working in‑office Monday through Friday.About Entrust:Our growing company relies on curious, dedicated and innovative colleagues to anticipate the future and provide solutions for a more connected, mobile and secure world.
