Senior Electrical Engineer – Property & Buildings Team – Chicago, IllinoisThis role provides the opportunity to support the design and delivery of electrical systems for a diverse portfolio of commercial, healthcare, higher education, civic, residential, and mixed‑use projects.The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineer who enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to innovative, sustainable building solutions.Your ImpactPerform electrical engineering design and analysis for building systems projects.Develop construction documents, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.Design power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.Coordinate designs with architects, owners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.Support project managers in meeting project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives.Utilize Revit and BIM tools to develop and coordinate project designs.Conduct field investigations, site visits, and existing condition assessments.Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and supporting project closeout.Review work for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.Support technical excellence initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering or related discipline.5–7 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in the design of building systems.Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure in the near term.Working knowledge of:National Electrical Code (NEC)Building and energy codesElectrical distribution systemsLighting and lighting controlsEmergency and standby power systemsFire alarm systemsExperience using:RevitAutoCADSKM, ETAP, or similar analysis softwareMicrosoft Office SuiteStrong communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills.Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast‑paced consulting environment.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license.Experience in healthcare, higher education, commercial, laboratory, or civic facilities.Familiarity with sustainable design principles and energy-efficient building systems.LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar credential.Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.Familiarity with construction administration and field observation activities.BenefitsWSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee's career.
