Are you passionate about building engineering systems? We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong focus and background in Building Projects to work in our Buffalo, NY office. This position will work closely with engineering staff to develop concepts, strategies, designs, drawings, specifications, and reports for buildings from conception to construction. Individual must be able to work independently, as well as part of multi-discipline teams producing electrical engineering documents.

The Building Engineering Division at LaBella provides complete building engineering services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineering. Services range from feasibility studies and analysis through project design and construction. Our engineers are well versed in new construction, renovations, additions, analysis, special structures, and design/build projects for a variety of clients.

The Electrical Engineer will work with Architects and Engineers as part of a project team to develop concepts, strategies, designs, drawings, specifications and reports. Duties shall include lighting calculations, power distribution design, circuit and feeder calculations, and power, telecommunication, security and systems layouts. Typical projects will involve field work, design, and construction administration services.

Candidates will work on an interesting variety of project types including K-12 and higher education, municipal, health care, large commercial, residential and other unique projects.

Duties

  • Complete electrical designs including evaluate, select, specify, and engineer single line diagrams, electrical room/equipment layout, panel sizing, lighting, and building systems design.
  • Load calculations for generators, transformers, switchgear, MCC's, panel boards, VFD's, feeders, and branch circuits.
  • Preparation of electrical design drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Researches, prepares, and presents coordinated design options
  • Interact closely with mechanical, civil, structural engineers and project architects.
  • Function as lead electrical engineer for multi-discipline projects, through all phases (proposal, design, bidding, and construction).
  • Function as a project manager for Building Engineering led projects, through all phases (proposal, design, bidding, and construction).
  • Reviews drawings and researches electrical and safety code issues to comply with national, city, state, and county regulations.
  • Delegate and monitor project tasks to junior team members.
  • Meeting with external and internal clients.
  • Performing building condition assessment reports.
  • Communicates with manufacturers and contractors to address challenges and develop practical designs.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with co-workers, staff, project managers, other disciplines, and all other employees.
  • Interact with owners, contractors, permitting and planning authorities and professional organizations to deliver projects, strengthen relationships and advance your career.
  • Serves as the Engineer-of-Record and internal technical design expert on assigned projects.
  • Actively participates in the development of design staff through work on projects and serves as a trainer, mentor and resource for junior staff.
  • Collaborates with the practice and market leaders to obtain and disseminate technical knowledge.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technologies and trends, as they apply to the applicable project and market types, and continually strengthens skills.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 per year

The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.

Requirements

  • A passion for building systems and being a respected technical expert.
  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in electrical engineering or related field required.
  • EIT certification.
  • New York State Professional Engineer’s license is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience working at an A/E consulting firm is required.
  • Building system design experience focused on power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security systems & telecommunications.
  • AutoCAD and Revit experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electrical modeling programs – Lighting software AGi32, Power software SKM.
  • Familiarity with Arc-Flash Evaluation.
  • Strong writing, organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
