Here's a summary of responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Senior Director leads the budgeting, communication, technology, and overall administration of the Sports Medicine department and athlete healthcare programs. They also oversee the Sports Medicine department’s administrative support for Games medical planning and delivery. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence; optimizing resources; fostering collaboration between clinical, administrative, performance, and operations teams; and delivering world-class, comprehensive care to Team USA athletes. The Senior Director is a member of the Sports Medicine department leadership team contributing to high-level decision-making and organizational strategy.

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

Administration 

  • Partner with the CMO and Sports Medicine department leadership team in the Sports Medicine strategic planning process. Contribute to the short- and long-term objectives and strategy. Develop new services, processes, and programs that continue to improve the outcomes of Team USA athletes at the Games.
  • Oversee the administrative support for Sports Medicine planning and preparations for the Games (Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American, Parapan American, Youth Olympic, etc.) including education, supplies and equipment, and budget management.  Collaborate with the Vice President, Sports Medicine and Sports Medicine Games Planning Team to ensure optimal clinic operations and logistics to meet the medical needs of Team USA and the staff experience.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director, Sports Medicine & Clinic Operations in developing, allocating, and managing the department budgets including partnering with the USOPC Finance and Olympic & Paralympic departments on budget forecasting, capital purchases, and projects. Analyze budget spending and implement strategies to optimize resources and align Sports Medicine priorities and goals.
  • Partner with the Associate Director to create, review, implement, and renew Sports Medicine contracts.
  • Partner with the CMO, Vice President, Clinic Leads, and Associate Director to oversee the delivery of exceptional administrative and operational services at each Sports Medicine Clinic and facilitate communication and collaboration between teams. Develop and lead the implementation of operational policies, best practices, and workflows between clinicians, clinics, systems, Electronic Health Record (EHR), and external partners including the National Governing Bodies (NGBs). Oversee the administration of the Sports Medicine Volunteer, Medical Assistance Fund, Mental Health Assistance Fund, Medical Network, and Athlete Recovery programs.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance administrative and operational service delivery and foster an environment that drives core values and behaviors.

Athlete Healthcare 

  • Create strategies to guide Team USA athletes to the best, most cost-effective medical services, thereby maximizing the health and well-being of Team USA athletes while reducing overall USOPC healthcare costs.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of strategic plans for athlete healthcare (Medical Network, Elite Athlete Health Insurance (EAHI), and other resources).
  • Partner with the CMO in cultivating relationships with potential Medical Network partners. Lead contract negotiations with new partners.
  • Analyze athlete healthcare utilization and identify strategies to optimize resources. Determine Medical Network geographical and medical service gaps and identify strategies to address gaps.
  • Lead the education, marketing, outreach, and communications strategies for athlete healthcare, ensuring athletes, NGBs, and USOPC partners are well-educated on available options and growing and enhancing service, access, and utilization.
  • Partner with the USOPC Communications team to align messaging and strategy in accordance with the USOPC brand and communications philosophy. Oversee the development of educational materials to promote the various medical resources available to Team USA athletes.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to strategize and implement quality improvement activities consistent with athlete healthcare goals and objectives. Evaluate outcomes and modify processes to increase productivity.
  • Oversee the athlete healthcare budget. Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports to ensure alignment with projected budgets and revenue forecasts. Provide monthly financial analyses to CMO outlining utilization of healthcare resources and remaining Medical Network resources including details related to medical and research VIK. Collaborate with the Finance team as needed to ensure effective budget tracking, allocation, and utilization strategies.
  • Develop and direct the Volunteer Dental Network, including identifying resources, provider recruitment, referral administration, compliance, and contracting.
  • Oversee athlete healthcare functions assuring quality of care, access to appropriate medical services and healthcare providers for qualified athletes, financial stewardship, customer service, and patient satisfaction through resource management.
  • Promote quality measures related to healthcare responsibilities while targeting benchmark indicators of superior performance. Develop metrics to evaluate the effectiveness and utilization of resources provided by the Athlete Healthcare team. Craft progress and success deliverables for presentations to Sports Medicine leadership, CMO, and executive leadership as appropriate.
  • Oversee the coordination of services across the full continuum of care to monitor and reduce duplication of efforts, streamline processes, improve customer satisfaction, maintain the accuracy of the Medical Network provider database for clinical and external travel requests, and assure regulatory compliance.

Leadership

  • Oversee correspondence with athletes, NGBs, Medical Network liaisons, and related USOPC staff regarding referrals, appointments, and related activities.
  • Demonstrate ethical business practices, personal actions, and adherence to USOPC Compliance requirements, Standards of Conduct, and the Code of Ethics.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • MBA or advanced degree in Health Care Administration preferred
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in health services and coordination of healthcare
  • 10+ years of experience delivering significant strategic and operational impact across an organization, including financial management and budgeting
  • 5+ years of demonstrable success in leading, hiring, and managing highly effective and innovative teams
  • Experience in healthcare systems and technologies preferred
  • Demonstrated management skills including outstanding written and verbal communication, team building, business program planning, organizational market assessment, outreach, and business development skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience communicating with leadership, colleagues, athletes, and healthcare partners
  • Demonstrated ability to independently make sound decisions regarding problems or operational issues
  • Ability to align and prioritize efforts across a wide range of team members, partners, and stakeholders

Here's some more information you need to know:

  • Hiring pay range $130,000 - $140,000 per year.
  • This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 25% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
