    JOB SUMMARY:The Senior Data Engineer (Data Warehouse & BI Platform) is responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and optimization of Stevens Transport’s data warehouse architecture. This role will lead the transition from externally supported data platforms to an internally owned and scalable data ecosystem.

    This position requires deep expertise in data pipeline architecture, data modeling, and platform engineering, as well as the ability to work independently to build reliable, high-performance data systems. The Senior Data Engineer will partner closely with BI, analytics, and business stakeholders to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and structured for enterprise-wide consumption

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Data Warehouse Architecture & Ownership

    • Architect, design, and maintain the enterprise data warehouse, including layered data models (raw/bronze validated/silver curated/gold datasets) 
    • Lead the evolution of Stevens’ data platform to reduce reliance on external consulting partners
    • Establish scalable data architecture standards, governance, and best practices
    • Optimize data structures to support high-performance analytics and reporting

    2. Data Engineering & Pipeline Development

    • Design, build, and maintain robust, production-grade data pipelines that ingest data from internal and external systems
    • Develop complex transformations, validations, and data integration workflows
    • Ensure data reliability, integrity, and consistency across all datasets
    • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms for pipeline health

    3. Platform & Tooling Leadership

    • Leverage modern data platforms including Microsoft Fabric, pipelines, and dataflows to support enterprise data needs
    • Build scalable solutions that support BI tools such as Power BI and semantic modeling with DAX
    • Collaborate on the design of data models optimized for reporting and analytics
    • Support version control, CI/CD processes, and deployment standards for data engineering workflows

    4. Legacy System Integration

    • Design and implement integration strategies for legacy systems (e.g., AS400) into modern data
    • Translate operational system data into structured, analytics-ready datasets
    • Ensure continuity and accuracy of historical and operational data

    5. Collaboration & Strategic Impact

    • Partner with BI developers, analysts, IT, and business leaders to define data requirements
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on data architecture and engineering best practices
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members as the function scales
    • Drive continuous improvement in data quality, documentation, and engineering standards

    Role Emphasis:

    • Full ownership of data warehouse architecture and backend engineering
    • Building internally sustained data capabilities
    • Driving data reliability, scalability, and performance
    • Acting as a senior technical IC with strategic influence

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Advanced expertise in SQL for data transformation, modeling, and performance optimization
    • Strong experience designing and managing data warehouse architectures and ETL/ELT pipelines
    • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including pipelines, dataflows, and data engineering capabilities
    • Experience supporting BI tools such as Power BI and working with DAX for data modeling and reporting
    • Proven experience integrating and working with legacy systems such as AS400
    • Strong understanding of data lifecycle concepts including ingestion, transformation, validation, and curation
    • Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively in building reliable, high-performance data systems

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience transitioning organizations from consulting-built platforms to in-house data ownership
    • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure preferred) and distributed data processing frameworks
    • Experience with Python, PySpark, or similar for data transformation workflows
    • Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance practices
    • Experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain environments

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • 7+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics engineering
    • Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale data platforms (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience)

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Ability to work in an office environment at Stevens Transport HQ in Dallas, TX
