The Opportunity
The Senior Commissioning Manager provides strategic and technical leadership across multiple commissioning programs, overseeing concurrent projects while coaching and developing CX staff across the commissioning team. This role carries significant accountability for client relationships, program-level outcomes, and the continuous improvement of Thermo Systems' commissioning operations.
The Senior CXM serves as a subject matter expert and trusted technical advisor to clients, Project Managers, and executive stakeholders. Partnering closely with the PMO and senior leadership, this role drives delivery standards, mentors the next generation of commissioning professionals, and ensures that Thermo Systems' most technically complex and high-value projects are executed with excellence.
What You’ll Do
Technical Scope Ownership & Engineering Leadership:
- Oversee technical scope delivery across multiple concurrent projects, serving as the senior escalation point for complex engineering challenges.
- Drive technical decision-making aligned to contract requirements, customer expectations, and Thermo Systems delivery standards.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to align resources and elevate commissioning quality across programs.
Commissioning & Start-Up Leadership:
- Lead commissioning planning and execution for large-scale or complex projects, including resource allocation and schedule development.
- Oversee and execute FAT/SAT programs and test plan development across the portfolio, ensuring consistent methodology and quality.
- Set the standard for field execution and serve as the senior escalation point for commissioning issues.
Quality & Technical Assurance:
- Establish and enforce commissioning quality standards across all projects and programs.
- Lead development and continuous improvement of commissioning standards, templates, and playbooks.
- Monitor, maintain, and lead commissioning documentation efforts across customer-specific platforms such as CX Alloy, BIM 360, and similar tools.
- Champion lessons-learned processes and drive organizational improvements.
Customer Technical Interface:
- Build and sustain long-term client partnerships as a trusted technical advisor at the executive and engineering levels.
- Lead high-stakes technical reviews, program demonstrations, and customer acceptance activities.
- Communicate program status, risks, and strategic recommendations to owner and executive stakeholders.
- Lead de-escalation of complex priority conflicts with customers and trade partners, driving toward mutually beneficial resolutions that protect project outcomes and preserve relationships.
Cross-Functional Project Integration & Leadership:
- Partner with senior Project Managers and the PMO on portfolio scheduling, risk management, and governance.
- Coach and develop CX staff at all levels, sharing technical expertise, providing field guidance, and supporting professional growth across the commissioning team.
- Contribute to business development through proposals, client presentations, and scope definition.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, Associate's degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on field experience.
- 10+ years of technical experience, including 8+ years in commissioning with a strong focus on data center environments and large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated success leading multi-project commissioning programs across concurrent technical teams.
- Established ability to manage senior client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders.
- Experience developing commissioning standards, organizational playbooks, or internal training programs.
- Background in industrial automation, systems integration, or critical facilities commissioning.
- PMP, CxA, or equivalent professional certification.

- Deep expertise in commissioning processes, systems integration, MEP infrastructure, and startup methodologies.
