Job Title: Senior Cloud Architect - AWS

Location: Fort Mill, SC (Onsite)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Architect to lead the design, governance, and implementation of secure, scalable, and enterprise-grade cloud platforms. This role will drive cloud modernization, migration, and platform engineering initiatives while aligning cloud strategy with business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, security, governance, and enterprise platform engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Strategy & Architecture

• Define enterprise cloud strategy, target-state architectures, and reference designs.
• Design secure cloud landing zones, networking, identity, observability, and governance frameworks.
• Lead application portfolio assessments and develop cloud migration strategies, including rehosting, replatforming, and refactoring.
• Establish cloud governance standards, tagging strategies, security guardrails, and FinOps best practices.
• Conduct architecture reviews and provide technical leadership across enterprise cloud initiatives.

Cloud Platform Engineering

• Design and oversee enterprise landing zones using AWS multi-account architectures and organizational structures.
• Architect scalable multi-VPC, multi-region network topologies with secure connectivity solutions.
• Design secure cloud infrastructure for:
  • Compute (EKS, ECS, EC2)
  • Storage (S3, EBS, EFS)
  • Databases (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB)
  • Messaging and Streaming (Kafka, MSK, Kinesis, SQS)
  • Serverless Services (Lambda, API Gateway)
• Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and reusable automation modules.

Security, Risk & Compliance

• Implement security-by-design principles across cloud platforms.
• Design enterprise identity and access management solutions using IAM, SSO, RBAC, and ABAC.
• Implement encryption, key management, secrets management, and certificate management solutions.
• Ensure compliance with industry frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI DSS, and other regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with security, audit, and risk teams to maintain enterprise compliance.

Observability & Site Reliability Engineering

• Architect enterprise monitoring and observability solutions using CloudWatch, Dynatrace, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar platforms.
• Define Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and operational runbooks.
• Implement disaster recovery, business continuity, resiliency, and high-availability architectures.
• Establish operational ownership models and support Day-2 cloud operations.

Governance & Delivery Excellence

• Lead Architecture Review Boards (ARBs) and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
• Drive build-versus-buy decisions, capacity planning, and cloud cost optimization.
• Promote automation through CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and policy-as-code practices.
• Monitor cloud performance, KPIs, operational metrics, and FinOps initiatives.

Technical Leadership

• Mentor cloud engineers, architects, and development teams.
• Lead technical workshops and architectural design sessions.
• Establish cloud engineering standards and reusable design patterns.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and technical stakeholders to align cloud strategy with business goals.
• Evaluate cloud technologies, vendors, and strategic partnerships.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of architecture or engineering experience with at least 5 years focused on enterprise cloud architecture.
• Strong expertise with AWS cloud services; experience with Azure or GCP is a plus.
• Proven experience designing enterprise cloud landing zones and secure multi-account architectures.
• Extensive hands-on experience with:
  • Terraform
  • Ansible
  • CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
• Strong knowledge of:
  • AWS IAM
  • KMS
  • Network Security
  • Secrets Management
  • Cloud Compliance
  • Cloud Governance
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Amazon EKS, ECS, and serverless architectures.
• Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), monitoring, incident management, and operational excellence.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
• Experience translating business requirements into scalable cloud solutions and strategic roadmaps.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent cloud certification.
• Experience working in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or life sciences.
• Knowledge of cloud data platforms including Snowflake, Databricks, EMR, Kafka, and MSK.
• Experience implementing FinOps strategies and cloud cost optimization.
• Experience integrating AI/GenAI services with secure governance and data privacy controls.
• Familiarity with Zero Trust security architecture and modern identity management.
