Job Title: Senior Cloud Engineer (AWS & Azure)
Overview / Summary
The Department of Technology Operations is seeking a Cloud Engineer to support the deployment and management of State-Wide Information Technology Shared Services Cloud initiatives and projects. This role will help further develop the State of South Carolina Cloud Strategy, work with State agencies on cloud adoption, and support the managed cloud broker. The position will assist with day-to-day cloud operations and migrations to AWS and Azure infrastructure as the organization transitions to a managed cloud broker.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform system administration, automation, and development tasks for the Cloud Management Platform (CMP).
- Work with DTO and customer personnel to facilitate migrations to the DTO cloud infrastructure.
- Maintain continuity of shared services offered across AWS and Azure.
- Assist with day-to-day operations and migrations to AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in infrastructure, systems engineering, DevOps, or architecture.
- 8+ years of technical architecture experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and 8+ years of technical architecture experience with relevant hands-on engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in Terraform infrastructure as code.
- Understanding of scaling technologies and solutions.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, or other container platforms.
- 5–7 years of AWS experience (IAM, Organizations, Networking Architectures, Cost Management controls, etc.).
- 3–5 years of Azure experience (RBAC, Azure AD, Networking Architectures, Cost Management controls, etc.).
- 3–7 years of enterprise cloud architecture or governance.
- 3–5 years of Terraform and infrastructure as code experience.
- 3–5 years of cloud migrations and platform operations.
- 3+ years of technical leadership and knowledge transfer.
- Public cloud infrastructure expertise.
- Experience with security, penetration testing, and threat detection tools.
- Experience with ServiceNow, Datadog, Dome9, and/or Aviatrix.
- Background in DevOps, Software Development, Site Reliability Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
- Experience with configuration management and continuous deployment.
- AWS and/or Azure certifications preferred.
