The Senior Classroom Technology Engineer serves as the senior technical lead for classroom and instructional technology support, ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, design, and continuous improvement of classroom A/V and presentation systems across the institution. This position will play a key role in modernizing and standardizing approximately 120 classrooms across four campuses, including standard, hybrid, and multi-location instructional environments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, testing, firmware/software updates, and repairs on audiovisual and instructional technology systems to maximize reliability and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and repair classroom technology systems and related digital and analog audiovisual equipment in centrally supported instructional spaces.
  • Respond to urgent classroom incidents and coordinate timely resolution within established SLAs to minimize disruption to instruction.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex classroom technology issues and troubleshoot control systems, DSPs, cabling, terminations, racks, displays, projectors, microphones, cameras, speakers, and audio/video distribution systems.
  • Monitor classroom technology systems using available monitoring and ticketing tools and coordinate with desktop support, networking, and other technical teams as necessary.
  • Serve as the institution's internal classroom A/V subject-matter expert and provide senior technical leadership for classroom technology design, support, and modernization.
Percentage of Time: 50%
  • Serve as the operational lead for classroom technology support by assigning and prioritizing work, coordinating coverage during instructional hours, assisting with standard operating procedures, and supporting the onboarding and training of team members or student workers.
  • Partner with networking, desktop support, academic technology, facilities, and other internal resources to resolve classroom issues and support classroom technology projects.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of classroom support procedures, operational standards, and service practices.
Percentage of Time: 10% 
  • Provide training, instruction, classroom walkthroughs, and one-on-one support to faculty, staff, and other users on the operation and effective use of classroom technology systems. 
  • Work directly with faculty and stakeholders to understand instructional use cases and translate those needs into practical classroom technology solutions. 
  • Provide usage guidance and best-practice support for classroom, hybrid-learning, Zoom, Teams, and related instructional technologies. 
  • Support classroom environments in which courses may be taught simultaneously across multiple locations, helping ensure an inclusive and consistent experience for students at each location. 
  • Develop and maintain user-friendly user guides, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting resources, and internal documentation related to classroom technology services.
Percentage of Time: 20%
  • Assist with classroom technology refreshes, equipment replacement planning, lifecycle tracking, and the broader modernization and standardization of classroom systems.
  • Evaluate existing classroom configurations and recommend improvements that enhance reliability, usability, consistency, and support for instruction.
  • Develop classroom technology standards and design recommendations based on faculty needs, instructional use cases, and current A/V technologies.
  • Provide primary design input to external A/V integrators and communicate the institution's technical, functional, and instructional requirements.
  • Review and validate integrator designs, recommendations, and completed work to ensure alignment with institutional standards and classroom use cases.
  • Support the design and testing of standard, hybrid, lecture, and multi-location classroom environments.
  • Support installation, setup, configuration, and testing of new classroom technology equipment, digital signage, and related instructional systems.
  • Help modernize classroom connectivity, including the transition to current standards such as USB-C.
Percentage of Time: 10%
  • Maintain accurate inventory, lifecycle, service, and repair records for classroom technology assets, replacement parts, and support requests.
  • Maintain relevant technical documentation for classroom configurations, standards, equipment, and completed work.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred; one in a related field is a plus. Equivalent relevant experience and technical training may also be considered. 
  • The following certifications are a plus:
    • Extron certifications 
    • AVIXA CTS-D certification. 
    • Biamp Tesira certification. 
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting classroom audiovisual, instructional technology, or closely comparable training-room environments.
    • Direct experience with Extron classroom systems and Extron NAV strongly preferred; Crestron experience or certification may be considered in place of direct Extron experience.
    • Applicants should provide a portfolio or representative samples of prior A/V design work. 
  • 3+ years of classroom technology or audiovisual systems design experience. 
    • Experience supporting higher education classrooms or faculty. Comparable corporate or institutional training-room experience may also be considered. 
    • Experience designing hybrid classrooms or environments connecting students and instructors across multiple locations. 
    • Previous lead or supervisory experience, including coordinating work or supporting the training and development of technical staff or student workers. 
  • Demonstrated experience gathering faculty or user requirements and translating use cases into classroom A/V designs and technical recommendations.
  • Experience working with external A/V integrators, including communicating design requirements and reviewing or validating proposed solutions and completed work.
  • Strong knowledge of classroom A/V systems, instructional presentation technologies, classroom computers, and related peripherals.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques used to maintain, repair, configure, install, test, and troubleshoot audiovisual and classroom technology equipment.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with control systems, DSPs, audio and video distribution, cabling, terminations, racks, displays, projectors, microphones, cameras, and speakers.
  • Experience with AV-over-IP environments and familiarity with Dante, VLANs, segmented A/V networks, and related networking concepts. This position will partner with a dedicated networking team for deeper network administration.
  • Experience supporting Zoom, Teams, hybrid-learning, or comparable classroom collaboration technologies.
  • Ability to develop classroom technology standards and create consistent, intuitive classroom experiences across spaces with different instructional requirements.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods, faculty support practices, and presentation technologies.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to remain calm, responsive, and professional in time-sensitive instructional settings.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and provide effective, user-friendly training and support to nontechnical users.
  • Ability to create clear user guides, technical documentation, troubleshooting resources, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple requests, prioritize operational needs, and adapt to changing classroom schedules and support demands.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in La Verne, California, and travel occasionally to other local campuses.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to qualify for coverage under the institution's vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds occasionally for short periods with a team lift.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position is based primarily in a standard office and campus environment but regularly responds to service calls in classrooms. Classroom work may require bending, crawling, reaching, and working with the hands in small or confined spaces.

The physical demands include the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds regularly. The position may occasionally require lifting or holding up to 60 pounds for short periods with a team lift.

Clear verbal and written communication is essential because the position involves frequent interaction with faculty, staff, colleagues, vendors, and external partners. The noise level is generally low to moderate. The position may occasionally involve urgent classroom incidents, deadlines, or competing priorities that require sustained focus and mental stamina.

The standard schedule is generally Monday through Friday during regular business hours, with overtime as needed. The position does not currently participate in an on-call rotation.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation depends on experience but is anticipated to range from $36.58 to $39.60/hr. However, we are in the process of getting the position recomped up to $43.32 to $51.58 per hour.  This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position.

The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
