Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 8 months
  • Pay Rate: $60.00 $67.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Contract-to-Hire: Opportunity for contract-to-hire conversion. Conversion decisions will be based on individual performance, business needs, and long-term workload demand.
  • Travel Requirements: Limited travel to client sites. Travel frequency varies by project needs but is expected to be relatively light approximately once per month or less.

Job Summary

A Senior Civil Designer will lead various phases of planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction documentation and environmental plans as part of a project team. This position will lead various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Lead a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.
  • Lead the quality review of designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Present reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan design projects.
  • Interpret design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Lead design drawings within scope, budget and schedule.
  • Quality review volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading.
  • Incorporate and approve schedules, budgets and project criteria into civil design and layouts for project financial goals.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Train, mentor, and develop staff members.
  • Participate in marketing and client development meetings.
  • Responsible for the civil design QA/QC process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Required Skills

  • Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
  • Advanced knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
  • Advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously within a team environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills across multiple disciplines.
  • Flexibility to support projects and teams across multiple U.S. locations.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a consulting/service-provider environment (manager strongly prefers candidates with experience on the service provider/consulting side rather than solely client-side experience).
  • Stable and consistent employment history demonstrating long-term commitment and growth.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field and 13 years of related experience required; OR
  • Associate's Degree and 14 years of related experience required; OR
  • 15 years of progressive detailing and design experience (field experience is desirable).
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred/required; however, relevant experience is significantly more important than education.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 13 years of related experience with a Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field; OR minimum 14 years of related experience with an Associate's Degree; OR minimum 15 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
  • Strong civil design experience and technical proficiency.
  • Experience on the service provider/consulting side preferred over solely client-side experience.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Projects are part of the Mission Critical market (confidential projects).
  • Candidate will receive direction from a Senior Engineer and be expected to independently develop design deliverables.
  • Will collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • National business model within the Global Facilities group team members may work with colleagues from any district across the U.S.
