CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: FOOD SERVICES MANAGER - SENIOR CENTER

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to manage the food service program for the Senior Center, and assist in the planning and organizing of the programs and events for the Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

The following tasks are performed under the direction of the Senior Center Director:

  • Manages, organizes, and assigns task for kitchen staff;
  • Assists Director with evaluations of staff, addresses employee concerns, and counsels staff as needed;
  • Assists with organizing staff work load, guides kitchen staff in preparation for special occasions and events.

Performs various professional tasks including; conducting training; ordering supplies, food, etc.; managing and maintaining client intake information and files; creating correspondence, memos, and reports; implementing food service budget ensuring food orders and meal preparation is within budgetary limits; completing cost and expense reports; reviewing billing received for orders and services for accuracy; and, assisting in developing proposals.

Manages staff training, including scheduling and attending classes required by the State.

Prepares menus to ensure meals meet standards for nutrition as required; ensures meals are prepared properly; and ensures food handling and preparation is completed in compliance with established guidelines and regulations.

Interacts with citizens to develop adequate programming; provides technical assistance to program participants by answering program-related questions.

Performs related administrative tasks for the department; Places orders with outside food vendors; maintains stock inventory of food supplies and equipment inventory; counts and monitors stock to ensure the maintenance of sufficient quantity levels to prevent interruptions in food service.

Reports and requests work orders and/or maintenance requests as needed for the repair of food service equipment and upkeep of the facility.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Operates a personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine and other office related equipment as necessary to complete essential functions; operates and utilizes kitchen and food preparation tools and equipment; includes the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent with three years' experience performing supervisory, professional and administrative tasks including food service operations in food preparation, cooking and serving processes; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess Safe Serve certification or be able to receive the certification within first six (6) months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
