About Pheonix Controls

Pheonix Controls delivers high-performance HVAC solutions throughout New England. As part of the MIH Systems Group family, we offer turnkey design, installation, and service. Our team partners closely with mechanical contractors, GCs, building owners, facilities managers, and engineers to craft custom, high-quality systems. A commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction has earned us a strong industry reputation—and we’re continuing to grow.

A Day in This Role

Morning begins on site, walking a new build where you finalize controller mappings and verify sensor accuracy. By midday, you’re collaborating with engineering and project management to refine sequences of operation for a high-efficiency plant. In the afternoon, you’re leading technicians through a commissioning checklist, resolving a tricky BACnet integration, and coaching a junior teammate on best practices. Before you wrap, you document updates, push a programming revision, and schedule preventive maintenance to keep performance optimized.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, program, and commission DDC controls for HVAC equipment—controllers, sensors, actuators, and networked devices.
  • Test, verify, and troubleshoot control systems to ensure reliable operation and peak performance.
  • Partner with engineering and project management to design control strategies and sequences of operation.
  • Lead a field team executing installations, upgrades, and repairs of DDC systems.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians through hands-on sessions and technical guidance.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance to sustain system efficiency and uptime.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex DDC/HVAC control issues across diverse sites.
  • Maintain precise records of configurations, code changes, and system updates.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in HVAC controls.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years as an HVAC controls technician focused on DDC systems.
  • Deep understanding of HVAC equipment, control theory, and field devices.
  • Hands-on programming/configuration experience with platforms such as Niagara 4/AX, Johnson, Distech, and Honeywell.
  • Background integrating DDC with BMS and other automation platforms.
  • Fluency with BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks communication standards.
  • Ability to interpret control schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Proven troubleshooting strength and methodical problem-solving.
  • Leadership experience directing and supporting a technician team.
  • Strong organization and time management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear communicator who collaborates effectively with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • Relevant controls and DDC programming certifications preferred.

Why Join Us
