The Senior Associate AD, Integrated Health, Wellness and Sports Performance serves as the primary administrative leader for all health, safety, and wellness functions within Syracuse University Athletics. This role provides executive-level oversight of all support service departments, including athletic training, strength & conditioning, sports nutrition, and mental health/sport psychology, as well as any additional health, safety, and wellness initiatives within the athletics department.

This position may serve as the designated Athletics Health Care Administrator (AHCA), pending finalization of current organizational restructuring, and is responsible for ensuring all programs, services, and personnel operate in compliance with NCAA, ACC, and institutional health and safety standards.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in sports medicine, athletic training, health administration, or related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in NCAA Division I athletics or professional sports environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary health, safety, or performance departments
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA health and safety regulations and Independent Medical Care guidelines
  • CPR/AED certification required
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Power 4 (ACC/Big Ten) athletics program
  • Background in athletic training/sports medicine, or health administration leadership

Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide direct administrative oversight of all health, safety, and wellness units.
  • Supervise all support service directors and ensure alignment of staffing, operations, and service delivery across all programs.
  • Serve as the central administrative authority for health and wellness operations within athletics.
  • Ensure independent medical care delivery, preserving the autonomous clinical authority of the Head Team Physician.
  • Serve as an escalation point for support department staff and departmental stakeholders for conflict resolution, in collaboration with the Head Team Physician.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of support service departments and facilities.
  • Ensure directors are effectively managing staffing structures, scheduling, and coordination of services across all sports.
  • Maintain efficient and consistent delivery of services across a high-volume Division I athletics program.

Clinical Coordination & Independent Medical Care Compliance

  • Work in coordination with the Head Team Physician and Chief Medical Officer to support implementation of clinical protocols.
  • Ensure adherence to NCAA Independent Medical Care guidelines and maintain separation between clinical authority and athletics operations.
  • Ensure no undue influence from athletics stakeholders on medical decision-making.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Directly manage and evaluate support unit directors and staff.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development.
  • Support recruitment, development, and retention of a high-performing sports medicine team.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Support ongoing professional development and continuing education.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Oversee medical and performance expenditures, equipment procurement, and inventory management.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility and efficient allocation of resources.
