MORGAN COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE Senior Accounting Clerk GRADE 7
DEPARTMENT Accounting DIVISION Professional & Admin
EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT Non-exempt REVISED May 2025
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Assists with the accounting functions necessary to process, record and report transactions for various funds, in accordance with established financial accounting and reimbursement standards and requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time.
? Answering telephone and performing reception for accounting.
? Conducts daily and monthly functions with input into Accounts Payable/Payroll, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, and Purchasing systems.
? Enters accounting data and transactions generated across the County.
? Entering data for the accounting department.
? Prepares narrative reports using word processing software.
? Creates reports using spreadsheet software for analysis.
? Prepares governmental forms and reports.
? Prepares weekly report for Department of Human Services for monthly State
accounts payable reporting.
? Process outgoing mail for County departments.
? Assist in proper recordation in the accounts of the general ledger.
? Interfaces with other staff, agencies, and the public.
? Prepares cash requirement summaries for the County Treasurer.
? Prepares the warrant register for County Commissioners.
? Coordinates weekly payment of accounts payable.
? Coordinates accounts receivable billings and payments across the County.
? Prepares and monitors monthly interfund billings.
? Reconcile annual assets for County audit and conducts annual physical inventory.
? Assists in providing information to the independent auditors as needed.
? Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports directly to the Director, Accounting/Finance.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
KNOWLDEGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
? Knowledge of GAAP and ability to properly apply.
? Knowledge of cost accounting principals and ability to properly apply them.
? Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
? Ability to organize thoughts and tasks well.
? Ability to interact professionally with internal and external contacts.
? Experience with automated accounting, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
? Knowledge and skill in the operation of multi-line telephone systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Minimum 3 years experience performing accounting duties or educational equivalent.
? Ability to key at 45 wpm with high degree of accuracy.
? Valid Colorado driver license.
? Must complete Emergency Management Institutes NIMS Courses IS-700 & IS-100 within 6 months of hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

? VISION - Individual must be able to read handwritten and printed material, and read from a computer monitor.
? HEARING - Individual must possess average hearing ability. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
? LIFTING - Must be able to lift, carry, push pull or a minimum of 25 pounds.
? MOBILITY - Individual must be able to sit for extended periods at a time. Occasionally* stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls, and crouches while performing manual office duties.
? DEXTERITY - Frequent* use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery.
? COMMUNICATION - Indiv dual must be able to clearly understand the English language and be understood while speaking the English language.
