The Senior Accountant role partners with Reinsurance Placement, P&C Underwriting, and P&C Controllership to support accounting for facultative and involuntary reinsurance and advance P&C Controllership priorities around trusted partnership, timely and accurate reporting, strong controls, data integrity, automation, and associate development.This is a hybrid role based in Columbus, Ohio, requiring on‑site presence at least two days per week. The position does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization; Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.Job Description Summary As a Senior Accountant, you will perform complex and advanced accounting functions, acquire, assemble, evaluate, interpret, record, and analyze financial data of all types and sources ultimately used to prepare statements for regulatory and statutory authorities and for internal management at all levels.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and analyze financial documents for the company and/or business areas as assigned and required.Review, as requested, reports, forms, and data for accuracy, proper documentation and completeness for both internal and external submissions.Maintain accounting records to coordinate, prepare and submit required reports.Develop and submit complex accounting and financial transactions required to insure proper reporting.Correspond with field staff or outside sources about discrepancies or other matters as directed.Keep informed of changes to GAAP and/or statutory requirements.Participate in developing changes to responsibilities that enhance, improve, or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow.Participate in the development and design of new systems and processes.Assist in the preparation and analysis of complex pro forma financial information for compliance with new requirements, situations, or reinsurance agreements.Complete reports or projects in an accurate manner, including proper documentation.Prepare state and supplemental reporting as assigned and required.Assist in the preparation of complex financial information provided to external auditors, IRS and state examiners and respond to questions as required.Prepare special reports and presentations as directed.Typical Skills and Experience Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting or finance; accounting major and degree preferred.License/Certification/Designation: Progress toward CPA preferred.Experience: Two to four years of related accounting experience, insurance experience preferred.Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: GAAP and/or statutory knowledge; insurance and/or business regulatory requirements; financial statement preparation; verbal and written communication skills; ability to analyze complex reporting requirements; proficiency with accounting and financial analysis software.Job Conditions Overtime Eligibility: Exempt (Not eligible)Working Conditions: Normal office environment; may require extended hours during high volume periods.ADA: The above statements cover what are generally believed to be principal and essential functions of this job. Nationwide Trans Inc was founded August 11, 2004 by friends and business partners Kong Lee and Tony Tran. They started in the industry at different logistics brokerages and formulated their own business model as a freight transportation provider. Nationwide started out of their one story home in 2004 with only 4 trucks and 4 drivers. After 8 months, they moved int o a 2-acre yard and bought 22 more trucks. Throughout the years, they built strong relationships with top brokers such as Landstar, Schneider, and Coyote. Lastly in July 2011 they moved the company to its current location, Ontario, CA. the 6-acre yard consists of over 100 trucks and 150 trailers.
