About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, supporting tax compliance, and contributing to financial strategy and process improvement. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with a high degree of independence while partnering cross-functionally.

This position goes beyond transactional accounting and includes review, analysis, and advisory responsibilities to support leadership decision-making.

What You’ll Do

  • Review, approve, and oversee AP transactions to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and compliance
  • Prepare and review journal entries and play a lead role in the month-end close process
  • Perform and review complex balance sheet, bank, and credit card reconciliations
  • Review and process federal and state tax payments, including SUTA, FUTA, and other payroll-related taxes
  • Prepare, analyze, and explain monthly financial statements and variance reports for management
  • Support internal and external audits and serve as a key accounting liaison
  • Maintain and review fixed asset schedules and depreciation
  • Support treasury functions, including cash management, bank account updates, ACH inquiries, and wire activity
  • Resolve complex ACH and NSF issues and support vendor and benefit-related programs (e.g., ZayZoon, 401(k) providers)
  • Develop and maintain accurate pro forma reports, forecasts, and financial models for leadership and strategic planning
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior accounting staff as needed

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Strong, hands-on knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, advanced formulas; Power Query a plus)
  • Proven ability to prepare and analyze pro forma financials and reports for management decision-making
  • High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments

Preferred

  • 4–6+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proven experience overseeing payroll tax, state tax, and county tax obligations
  • Experience supporting audits and preparing audit schedules
  • CPA or CPA-track highly preferred
  • Experience in a PEO, payroll, or professional services environment preferred
