Senior Accountant - Fixed Assets
Houston, TX (Hybrid schedule, 3 days onsite)
 
Role Overview:
This position performs comprehensive accounting functions, including monthly close, reporting, and analysis with heavy emphasis on fixed assets. Senior accountants are expected to work independently and serve as the financial and accounting expert for their area, liaising with all levels of management and external auditors.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage fixed assets accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliation.
  • Support and perform detailed accounting tasks associated with the monthly close.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and trial balance reviews.
  • Lease accounting and preparation of assigned reporting for internal monthly and quarterly management reviews.
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors; provide data and analysis as required.
  • Generate detailed cost and operational reports for managers and analysts.
  • Document variances, corrective actions, and process improvement plans with operational teams.
  • Support inventory valuation processes.
  • Assist with capital projects, budgeting, and spending justifications.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX process requirements.
  • Stay current with accounting standards and technical pronouncements; apply new guidance per company policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and participate in cross-functional initiatives.
  • Manage multiple deadlines, respond to management requests, and provide leadership on accounting projects.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; CPA, CMA, or Master’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive public accounting experience or 4–5+ years in industry accounting.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or operational environment preferred, including AP, general accounting, payroll, inventory, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced knowledge of fixed assets processes, including capitalization, depreciation methods, disposals, and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Cost accounting and manufacturing accounting experience is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards, SAP, BPC) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, manage multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
