Job Summary:
Our company is looking for a skilled and competent Semi Driver to safely and efficiently operate our fleet of heavy-duty trucks to transport goods to transfer destinations. As a Semi Driver, your ability to follow Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, as well as local, state, and federal regulations are essential to your success in this position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operate semi-trucks in a safe and appropriate manner
- Safely attach and detach the fifth wheel of full or empty semi-trailers throughout the shift
- Ensure proper disposal of waste at the landfill
- Conduct daily maintenance and safety checks of vehicles under your care
- Follow directions from supervisors regarding required work
- Report any unsafe situations, incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage immediately
Safety
The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority. As such, all Semi Drivers must promote and adhere to our company's safety program by:
- Attending safety meetings
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or others
- Perform all duties as scheduled by supervisors or Dispatch, assisting other drivers as directed
- Completes and submits all documents
- Completely dumps all trailers
- Follow all guidelines and rules set by the landfill or dump location
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must possess a valid Class A Driver's License
- Class A semi-truck experience preferred
- Ability to safely operate heavy-duty vehicles and properly attach and detach trailers is essential
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards
- Ability to work well in a team and follow directions from supervisors
- Physically able to handle and control vehicles; lift heavy objects rarely (less than 25 lbs.) Note: the level of physical effort may vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than documented
- Proficiency with navigation technology and route-planning software is a plus
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work overtime as scheduled
- Must be flexible to work any shift as scheduled
- Must be able to work in all seasonal weather conditions
