Salary Range: Up to $50,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The Security Systems Technician I performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repair/replacement of physical security equipment installed at UT San Antonio campuses. This role is responsible for performing and/or coordinating with outside contractors the maintenance and repair of installed security equipment, and for providing assistance and quality assurance testing for new installations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventories of deployed security hardware and stored replacement parts, and plans for and requests new parts as necessary. Performs work according to manufacturer's specifications, departmental guidelines, industry standards and best practices and in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Performs hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting of deployed security equipment such as emergency phones, camera equipment, video management systems, alarm systems, access control devices, and other physical security devices. Utilizes testing devices to identify equipment malfunctions. Performs routine preventative maintenance on all security system equipment and servers.
  • Coordinates with security contractors on troubleshooting and repairs, ensuring quality of service and adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Coordinates with other UT San Antonio departments, such as UTS and Facilities for network and infrastructure support as necessary.
  • Coordinates with UT San Antonio business areas such as Campus Services and the Student Union on projects such as equipment upgrades / replacements.
  • Documents each repair or service call at the time of service, tracking hours spent and equipment repaired or serviced.
  • Researches and recommends equipment for upgrades or replacement, and assists in security design of new projects.
  • Organizes and maintains critical and confidential records, inspection reports, project quotes, and purchase orders. Documents full maintenance project lifecycle from the time a deficiency is noted to successful repair or replacement.
  • Assists with the deployment of the mobile surveillance trailer.
  • Assists with or conducts training on the use of security equipment.
  • Supports Police Department operations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Vocational Training or Apprenticeship in a related field.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
  • FBI background check.
  • Must be eligible to work in secure and/or restricted-access facilities and demonstrate the ability to meet all compliance standards, including those mandated by grant funding agencies and site-specific security protocols.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Working Conditions

  • Standard office conditions. Occasional exposure to weather and outdoor elements. Workdays, areas, and work hours may vary based on the needs of the department. May be required to be on-call.

Physical Demands

  • Physical ability to sit, walk, kneel, bend, crawl and climb. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
