Summary:
The security supervisor is responsible for the overall operation of the security officer staff. This position is responsible for all aspects of security services delivery at the Alabama A&M University worksitesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor security officers by patrolling with them by automobile, bicycles, on foot or etc.
- Screen visitors before allowing them to enter the premises.
- Keep the premises free from all kinds of dangers.
- Provide security to office staff, buildings, and properties.
- Monitor the electronic surveillance equipment used on the premises.
- Prepare written reports, in a clear and concise method that meets the needs and requirement of the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
- Assign areas for security officers to patrol.
- Oversees the transfer of the accused person to the custody of local law enforcement personnel.
- Works with staff to develop safety plans for the buildings.
- May lead periodic safety drills for employees and patrons.
- Ensure compliance of applicable policies and regulations while implementing security measures.
- Develop and implement preventative measures against accidents, thefts, and other risks.
- Maintain all security devices and products in good working condition.
- Evaluate, assess, and analyze performance of security personnel; initiate disciplinary measures whenever necessary.
- Train and schedule programs and functions to security personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
- A high school diploma or GED
- Must have a valid driver's license and no criminal record
- Must have experience as a security guard, police officer, or military police officer
- Training and experience working with electronic monitoring systems is preferred
- As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation
- Ability to change the planned starting and finishing time of a shift
- Must be able to work eight (8) hour shifts
Essential Physical Functions
- Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (title, concrete, carpet, etc.)
- Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
- Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
- Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
- Run as needed
- Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
- Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
- Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
- Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
- Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
- Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
- Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
- Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
- Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume general public (constantly to occasionally depending on assignment)
