Secure and Non-Secure Network Engineer

Background:

• Headquarters Air Mobility Command HQ AMC/A6 requires engineering support for Infrastructure and Operation, Voice Networks, Secure and Non-Secure Networking, Network transmission for both wired and wireless, and assured Command and Control (C2) voice/video/data systems.
• The engineering support provides end-to-end technology analysis, assessments, and review of all technical solutions, products, services, and capabilities to ensure all are consistent with Department of Defense (DoD) and USAF base area network architecture and standards.
• These projects provide direct support to the Services (Army, Air Force, etc.), Combatant Commands (COCOMS), Joint Staff as well as the DoD business and acquisition communities depending on network access.
• HQ AMC communications equipment and systems are in continual need of technology refresh and upgrades that encompass system components, software, Local Area Networks (LANs), Wireless LANs, Network Multiplexing, voice and supporting infrastructures.
• The end result is more efficient and effective technology investments and ultimately improved global, net-centric operations which are delivered through products, services, and capabilities to AMC bases

Position Summary: Facilitate services to design, plan, implement and monitor networks supporting clients/system on the NIPR/SIPR Base Area Network (BAN). Provide complete technical solutions to replace Layer 2/3 network components on Air Force installations also be able to analyze initial symptoms of network problems (first-line support) and provide advanced technical troubleshooting and analysis (second-line support).

Essential Job Functions:

• Analyze network equipment, operating systems, integration and testing, and cross functional work experience to facilitate support of multiple IP-Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), which defines the functional architecture for a managed IP-based network.
• Serve as part of the Device Performance/Network User Testing, evaluate new products/devices, as well as software protocols for various regions within the command.
• Participate in working groups, technical conferences, and meetings as required to provide the Government feedback on technical areas, ability to reference and implement network standards, configurations, and AF Waiver requests, Quality of Service, VPN technology, Ethernet over IP, Wireless distribution, Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC), Suite B, Authority to Operate (ATO), Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Wireless applications specific to those identified below.
• Ensure the smooth operation of communication networks to provide maximum performance and availability for the users
• Provide overall network engineering support for planning, designing, monitoring, and evaluating various components of voice, video, and data networks.
• Require OSI model/SME who can manage, troubleshoot, secure, and monitor network components in layer 2 and 3 to include base boundary, Service Delivery Point (SDP), and Point of Presence (POP).
• Provide administrative assistance to support secure and non-secure voice, video, and data storage, prepare the network for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and cross domain solutions (CDS); understand CSfC transport to include CDS, encryption, transport, and end user access. Understand the various end points and can troubleshoot connection problems.
• Conduct network and security surveys on NIPR/SIPR networks and provide a detailed analysis allowing the Government to procure, install, configure, and sustain all network components on a base network.
• Design, review and advise components that are part of the base network and provide architectural drawings/implementation plans/project support agreements/requirement documents to ensure AMC/A6 is supporting MAJCOM worldwide mobility operations dependent upon network applications.
• Develop, process, and submit system Change Requests to the appropriate agency, capable of working directly with product vendors and network operators, ensuring new technologies are deployed as expected, and submit authorization letters to external agencies in support of certificate to operate.
• Implements patches and apply software updates IAW DoD directives (STIG, UCR, MUDG), evaluate, identify, and document changes regarding power for telecommunications and integrated data and video components/systems; evaluate the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) sizing and capabilities to support existing and future requirements.

Education/Certifications:

CCNA is preferred, Network + is minimum requirement

Required Knowledge/Experience:

• Experience designing and installing networks and/or components, background interfacing with Cloud Based Technology and Cloud Computing, Server Virtualization and Administration background, understanding of both VoIP and Secure VoIP transport
• Provide and understand state-of-the-art Secure and Non-secure networking architecture Knowledge of Secure and Non-secure network transmission systems and applications (wired and wireless 812.11, CBRS, LTE)
• Understand interoperability issues between mixed types of network/equipment to include new technology dealing with the transmission of secure data (CSfC, Suite B)
• Demonstrate knowledge of IT programs/project management (cradle to grave) to include requirements validation, cost proposals, business case analysis, methodologies, system development life cycle (SDLC), and sustainment
• Familiar and understanding of Zero Trust architecture and implementation, demonstrate application of STIGs, software upgrades, and patches, configure/troubleshoot installed Cisco Identity Service Engine
