Job Title: Secretary, Elementary Principal

Primary Purpose:
To provide secretarial support and office management skills that will ensure the proficient operation of the school campus and the principal's office.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Have a working knowledge of the school district and its policies
Be able to work tactfully and efficiently despite pressure situation and frequent interruptions
Have excellent secretarial skills with a superior degree of proficiency in computer skills
Have ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); interpret data; and coordinate various district functions
Minimum Experience:
Three (3) years secretarial experience
30 semester hours of college credit or equivalent training preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
General

Duties and Responsibilities
Presents a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
Receives Principal's visitors (School Board Members, staff, community members, school patrons, etc.) in a courteous manner.
Serves as liaison for the school principal and promote positive and effective communication with other administrators, district staff, parents, community, and others.
Receives complaints from parents and school patrons in a sensitive, fair and courteous manner, carefully listening to the complainants' side without making judgment; summarize substance of complaint for Principal to enable him/her to save time in returning complainants' call and communicating concern to appropriate administrator.
Demonstrates sound judgment in disseminating information and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Maintains a working knowledge of district and its policies.
Coordinates meetings - arrange for facilities, contact participants, and prepare materials.
Places and receives telephone calls, screening or channeling calls as appropriate; recording accurate messages, scheduling appointment and maintaining calendars, maintain records of the office, process work orders, and purchase orders.
Takes the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment including knowledge of computer programs and the ability to create complicated forms, documents, etc. with the software available in the district.
Facilitates major projects on the campus including but not limited to handouts and materials for presentations, publishing reports.
Assists campus clerks in whatever their needs might be.
Orders and maintains office supplies, and process them to appropriate teachers/librarians.
Demonstrates responsible fiscal control of the campus budget and coordinate with the Principal in reference to purchasing, invoicing, and inventory of items as appropriate.
Maintains accurate records of all expenditures.
