PGS Worldwide is seeking a Secret-Cleared System Safety Engineer in Woodland Hills, CA for a 6-month onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The System Safety Engineer will support specialty engineering activities for safety-critical systems and software. This role applies system and software safety engineering principles, develops safety analyses and requirements, documents hazards, and supports certification to military and aerospace safety standards.
Required Skills
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Secret security clearance required.
• Experience applying system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882.
• Experience performing preliminary hazard analyses, functional hazard analyses, system and subsystem hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, and software system safety analyses.
• Experience using DO-178, DO-254, or the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook for design and development.
• Ability to identify system safety issues and develop solutions that mitigate or eliminate hazards.
• Ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and requirements.
• Understanding of requirements development, system and software architecture, hardware and software design, software implementation, testing, verification, and validation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and all levels of leadership.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with DOORS, Cameo, or PLM systems.
• Experience with PTC Windchill Quality Solutions or related safety and reliability tools.
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or other Agile software tools.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP4754, ARP4761, or MIL-HDBK-516C.
• Agile and Model-Based Systems Engineering experience.
• Experience developing or reviewing FMEA or FMECA documentation.
What You’ll Do
• Apply MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering methodologies.
• Support system and software development and certification to DO-178 and DO-254 standards.
• Prepare PHAs, FHAs, SHAs, SSHAs, bent-pin analyses, fault tree analyses, and software system safety analyses.
• Identify hazards, recommend mitigations, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Develop and maintain system safety requirements and supporting artifacts.
• Document hazards using a closed-loop hazard tracking system.
• Support safety considerations throughout design, development, integration, test, verification, and validation.
• Communicate project status to Cost Account Managers and Integrated Product Team leadership.
Pay
• $81.37 per hour
