POSITION: Secondary Special Education Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a Michigan Teaching Certificate (may be granted temporary approval) or full approval in one or more areas of Special Education

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with general education staff to accommodate secondary (9-12) curriculum, as appropriate, for students with disabilities
  • Coordinate paraprofessional support
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary evaluation team (MET) and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and perform all other case management duties
  • Develop and implement specially designed instruction and positive behavioral supports for caseload students
  • Develop and maintain an active parent/school communication program
  • Participate in all assigned in-service training and staff meetings, at both the building and departmental levels
  • Contribute as a member on various building and leadership teams

SALARY: Per Master Agreement (contract is under negotiation for 2026-27) - up to Step 9 on the WEA salary schedule with applicable years of experience and Superintendent approval

  • $3,000 signing bonus, paid in two installments throughout the first year of employment
  • $1,000 annual bonus for obtaining and maintaining a National Board Certification
  • Comprehensive retirement and insurance benefits packages (or $5,000 cash in lieu of health insurance)
  • Annual paid time off, as follows:
  • 4 Personal Days
  • 12 Sick Days
  • Longevity pay, once eligible
  • Early Notification and Early Retirement Incentives, if qualified
  • Sick bank payout available up to $15,000 upon retirement, if qualified
