Function Position Summary To provide assistance in the implementation of School Nutrition Program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal State and local regulations. Assist Food & Nutrition Services Administrators with facilitating day-to-day operations of secondary schools. Provide leadership and direction to secondary schools. Adhere to School District U-46s mission, vision, and values.
Job Duties Responsibilities • Manage and supervise the school food service program in accordance with federal state and local requirements. • Maintain current knowledge and enforce all Federal State and Local requirements as it pertains to the Dietary Guidelines for School Nutrition Programs. • Adhere to policy on USDA professional standards and maintain accurate training records for assigned staff ensuring full compliance. • Oversee supervision of secondary schools and managers assigned. • Cohesively work with Secondary Managers and Registered Dietician on menus program innovation and marketing promotions. • Collaborate with elementary field managers and Food & Nutrition Services office staff. • Participate in site visits to ensure compliance with USDA ISBE and department guidelines. • Coordinate efforts with Food Safety Coordinator on all HACCP policies and procedures ensuring that the commissary and elementary schools are in 100% compliance with policies and procedures. • Support the Food & Nutrition Services Administrators on all SEIU matters including performance evaluations, grievances, training, interviewing, and adhering to policies set forth in the districts employee handbook and SEIU contract. • Facilitate marketing and promotional events to increase participation. • Ability to manage day-to-day operations at multiple sites. • Provide oversight and daily supervision for summer programming. • Collaborate with Human Resources for hiring and onboarding of applicants. • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with building administrators. • Actively participate in monthly manager or leadership meetings, webinars, and video conferences, and provide ongoing professional development for staff. • Collaborate with secondary school managers on monthly operating reports, inventory management, and financial goals. • Establish and implement annual secondary school manager goals and performance reviews. Provide coaching and leadership as needed with appropriate documentation and adhering to Union and District guidelines. • Maintain confidentiality on all sensitive matters. • Other duties as assigned by Food & Nutrition Services Administrators.
Qualifications
Education • High School Diploma or GED required. • Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification previously known as a sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment. • Current Illinois Drivers License. • Earn and/or maintain School Nutrition Association certification level 1 or higher within the first year of employment.
Experience Knowledge • Minimum of four years experience in supervisor level position within the Food Service Industry. • Proficient in Google and other software in common usage. • Capability to maintain complex records and express ideas and directives effectively verbally and written. • Strong ability to provide a high level of customer service to students, staff, parents, and team members. • Knowledge of school nutrition, food storage methods, inventory methods, department policies, procedures, and regulations. • Ability to plan and organize work to maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments. • Ability to demonstrate knowledge in culinary math, food costing, product evaluation, food waste metrics, and yields. • Ability to set goals and establish process plans for completion. • Ability to plan and organize work to maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
Salary and Benefits This is a twelve (12) month full-time position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
Must complete all Food Service and District-mandated GCN tutorials monthly, safety training, and department-sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due dates.
Attend all meetings and trainings as required.
260 calendar days, 8 hours per day.
The full salary range for this position is $45,257.00 - $67,340.00. Our typical practice is to hire in between the minimum and midpoint, $51,417.60.
