Job Summary:
The Painter is responsible for painting walls, ceilings, woodwork, interior and exterior surfaces of the unit using brush, spray, or roller equipment. Additionally, when not painting, basic maintenance tasks will be assigned under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor. This is a seasonal position (+/- 7 months) with the potential to become full time based on performance and property needs.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Mix and match paints and other surfacing material including base material, thinner, pigment, stain, varnish, shellac, lacquer, plastic paint, and bituminous paints.
- Prepare wood and plaster surfaces by cleaning, removing old paint, sanding, filling cracks and holes, applying tapes, fillers and base coats.
- Prepare, treat, and paint iron, steel, and other metal and alloys.
- Work at heights from scaffolding or swinging stage.
- Exercise proper care and cleaning of all brushes and other painting related equipment.
- When assigned, hang wallpaper, cut glass, install window or door panes, lay out parking lot boxes or signs, paint street lines or markings, paint signs or posters, finish furniture surface by staining, varnishing, polishing or waxing.
- Perform general carpentry repair, construction, maintenance and other tasks as assigned.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
- Partial High School education; High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Knowledge to include the surface and absorption qualities of the various woods, metals, brick glass, cement and concrete, the mixing characteristics of various oil, pigment, thinner, drier, and stains.
- Have the ability to correctly select, care for, and use brushes.
- Correct methods of erecting scaffolding.
- Ability to operate sandblasting equipment, spray guns, and related attachments, power washers, paint mixing machines, all types of sanders, paint shakers, and any other related equipment.
- Must have the ability to perform all procedures safely, and be willing and able to use all proper personal protective equipment.
- Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and communicate it to management.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
- Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to stand for the entire work day.
- Climbing steps regularly.
- Withstanding temperature extremes in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
- Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by co-workers.
- Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in fast-paced kitchen.
- Normal hearing and vision.
- Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.
- Must wear the correct protective and safety equipment at all times.
