The City of Keene Parks and Recreation Department is getting ready for a busy season and is looking to fill multiple Seasonal Maintenance Worker positions. If you have the skills to safely operate multiple pieces of equipment for lawn care and landscaping and are willing to work in any type of weather, then this job is for you.

Duties will include but not be limited to lawn care, landscaping, routine ball field maintenance, maintaining the multi-use trail system, assisting with special events, performing seasonal opening and closing procedures, cleaning restrooms, collecting and removing trash, and on occasion assisting in the burial process. Pay rates will range from $16-17 per hour depending on years of experience. Hours are Monday-Friday 7am-3pm but occasionally hours may vary. Saturday and/or Sunday hours from 6am-9am are necessary every few weeks.

To ensure compliance with NH Department of Labor youth employment laws regarding the operation of power equipment, candidates must be at least 18 years of age. Additionally, a valid and current drivers license is required, along with a high school diploma or GED or a combination of education, training, and experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of skilled tasks essential to the daily operation and maintenance of the department. • Performs grounds maintenance and routine ball field maintenance such as lawn mowing, string trimming, sweeping, raking, landscaping, removing trash, and snow removal. • Maintains ball fields and multi-use trail system. • Performs janitorial duties such as cleans and maintains restrooms and collects and removes trash. • Performs building maintenance and repairs such as painting. • Assists with special events, performs seasonal opening and closing procedures, and on occasion will assist in the burial process. • Work may be performed independently after some training and once a routine is established, work is reviewed while in progress and/or upon completion and results obtained. • Maintains all safety levels and security standards as determined by management. • May operate equipment and keeps tools, equipment, and work area in clean, orderly manner. • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

A. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent or any combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating the required knowledge.

B. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization or members of the public in difficult situations.

C. COMPUTER SKILLS Basic familiarity with computers, tablets, and mobile devices, including Microsoft Office knowledge, the ability to retrieve and send e-mail, and to work with computerized work order systems.

D. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

E. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

F. MECHANICAL SKILLS Ability to operate multiple pieces of equipment for lawn care, landscaping, and snow operations. Basic understanding of small engine repairs, blades, and chain sharpening, electrical work, and plumbing is desirable.

G. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid NH drivers license.

Physical Demands

This position involves light to heavy physical labor and frequently involves work in outdoor weather conditions. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee occasionally is required to sit. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions. Employee frequently will lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds.

Work Environment

The noise level can be loud. This position frequently involves work in outdoor weather conditions. There is frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration. Knowledge of work hazards and safety practices related to equipment operation. There is occasional exposure to high or precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. Outdoor weather conditions vary depending on the season.
