General Description

The Maintenance Worker is a valuable member to our Facilities team who under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty as a maintenance worker. An employee in this position is responsible for aiding with and independently performing duties directed towards the general maintenance of the Lake County Health Department buildings, grounds and equipment. Work involves the responsibility for the performance of specialized maintenance and repair operations. General assignments are received from a supervisor, but maintenance personnel are expected to plan details of job and carry it to completion, without immediate supervision and in accordance with standard trade practice. Work is performed according to prescribed policies and procedures. Employees report to the Facilities Supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Performs General tasks in lawn maintenance.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks such as moving furniture and room set-up, including placement of equipment and furnishings and installations of shelves.
  • Performs limited maintenance tasks in such areas as carpentry, painting and plastering.
  • Participates in snow/ice removal on campuses and outposts.
  • Cleans up workspace after completion of project.
  • Ensures that all tools and equipment have been returned to the proper location.
  • Keeps vehicle in a neat and clean appearance.
  • Completes all paperwork in a timely manner.

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

  • Successful completion of a standard high school or GED program.
  • One year of maintenance experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable in one of the building or mechanical trades and have a working knowledge of the others.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment, climb, crouch or stoop, and lift/carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to maintenance work.
