Job Description
The City of Saratoga Springs currently has several openings for Seasonal Maintenance Workers. These positions will work approximately 40 hours per week in either the Parks, Sewer, Streets, or Water departments. These positions assist the full-time employees with the ongoing operation and maintenance of Saratoga Springs City parks, streetscapes, utilities, infrastructure, and other Saratoga Springs City property.
Job Responsibilities
Parks: • Perform all aspects of turf management, including mowing, line trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, herbicide spraying, overseeding, and sod replacement using a variety of application equipment and techniques. • Provide care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers, including planting and proper pruning. • Assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools. • Assist in the repair, maintenance, and cleaning of City buildings. • Remove graffiti and repair vandalism of City property. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Patriot Park: • Help groom and maintain baseball fields, including dragging and raking infields for game perpetration. • Chalk and line paint ball fields for game perpetration. • Maintain and clean Patriot Park facilities. • Ball field landscape maintenance.
Sewer: • Assist with routine maintenance of the Citys sewer infrastructure. • Assist with jetting of sewer lines. • Assist with inspections of manholes. • Assist with maintenance of sewer lift stations. • Assist with general maintenance duties of public facilities as assigned. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Streets: • Perform maintenance operations and cleaning of the Citys entire drainage system. • Operates light vehicles, such as pickups, to transport light rollers and to perform specialized maintenance functions, including traffic striping and sign painting. • Operates light roller to compact asphalt patching. • Perform storm clean-up. • Remove trash and debris built up on grates and inlet wings during and after storms. • Monitor problem areas prone to flooding. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Water: • Assist with routine maintenance of the Citys water infrastructure. • Assist with repairs to water facilities as needed. • Assist with the installation and maintenance of water meters. • Assist with water meter reading on a monthly basis. • Assist with utility locating. • Assist with general maintenance duties of public facilities as assigned. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: A limited number of under 18 years old positions are available. Majority of positions are for applicants over 18 years of age. Graduation from high school or GED is preferred. Previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field to demonstrate aptitude or ability to perform above or related duties is preferred.
Certifications: Required: • A valid Utah Drivers License • First Aid and CPR Certification • Ability to obtain Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate the ability to follow City policies and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of parks, streets, or utilities maintenance, depending on position. Ability to maintain records and task lists. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, including employees, volunteers, and the general public. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.

The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 80 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
Work may periodically require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee may be required to work in outside weather conditions in wet and/or humid conditions in high precarious places near moving mechanical parts, near fumes, airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals, or near risk of electrical shock and/or vibration.
