A Taste of What Youll Do

As a Seasonal Lab Assistant, youll play a hands-on role in supporting winery operations during one of the most exciting and fast-paced times of the year. Working under direct supervision, youll help ensure the quality and integrity of our wine and juice products through routine laboratory and sanitation activities. Your work will directly support winemaking teams by providing timely, accurate data and maintaining a clean, well-organized lab environment.

In this role, youll perform sanitation inspections across winery locations, collect samples from tanks and other production areas, and assist with a variety of microbiological and chemical analyses. Youll become familiar with sampling locations throughout the winery and help ensure samples are collected safely and accurately, without risk of contamination or product loss.

Youll also contribute to the daily upkeep of the lab by preparing media, cleaning equipment, and supporting general laboratory organization. This position requires attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to quality, safety, and environmental standards. Flexibility is key, as schedules may include weekends, overtime, and varying shifts based on operational needs. If you enjoy working in a collaborative environment and want to gain hands-on experience in winery lab operations, this seasonal opportunity offers valuable exposure to the winemaking process.

What Youll Need

  • Bachelors Degree OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus previous GALLO experience OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus previous winery or vineyard experience.
  • Experience working well with others.
  • Skilled in maintaining accuracy in lab work.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Required to lift and move 40 pounds frequently.
  • Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Required to work in high, precarious places.
  • Required to work any shift, including weekends.
  • Required to work overtime when necessary.
  • Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Skilled in writing simple correspondence.
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.

How Youll Stand Out

  • Associates degree in chemistry, food science, biology, or chemical engineering plus 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Excel at a basic level.
  • Experience operating laboratory machines and equipment such as a manual-shift motor scooter, computer and various meters and testing devices.
  • Experience solving practical problems and working with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
