Role Overview:

This role is responsible for participating in preventative maintenance and/or maintenance repair work at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). You will follow general instructions and standard practices of the trade. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Location:

This position is located in INDOT's LaPorte District.

Pay Rate:

This position pays an hourly rate of $18.00.

A Day in the Life:

The essential elements of the job duties:

  • Oversees the work of outside contractors, making sure assigned work is completed appropriately and as scheduled, as well as in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Identifies, makes recommendations to the proper parties, and takes appropriate action to ensure timely correction of maintenance issues/problems at all district facilities;
  • Oversees operation and maintenance of the facility and/or buildings to minimize the interruption of service to various operations;
  • Assists in ensuring that the facility and grounds are in a constant state of survey readiness from a maintenance perspective;
  • Initiates repair parts order requests, recommends items for inventory stock, and monitors use;
  • Provides service and repairs to various facilities motors, panels, transformers, lighting systems, brine systems deer burners, lift stations, propane dispensers, etc.;
  • Performs support work with/for other crafts/trades;
  • Installs commercial doors and hardware;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What Youll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Valid high school diploma or GED, preferred.
  • One (1) year of work experience, maintenance preferred.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
