Job Description:

To join the Ads Trust & Safety organization, supporting a specialized team focused on account hijacking investigations. In this role, you will investigate sophisticated account compromise incidents, identify malicious actors, uncover attack patterns, and help protect the integrity of the Ads ecosystem.

You will conduct complex, actor-level investigations involving compromised Ads and mail accounts by analyzing login activity, IP addresses, authentication events, phishing campaigns, and behavioral signals. Working closely with Security Engineers, Product Managers, and Ads Engineering teams, you will identify root causes, recommend remediation actions, and contribute to high-impact incident response efforts.

This position is ideal for professionals with backgrounds in fraud investigations, cybersecurity operations, account takeover (ATO) investigations, digital forensics, or banking fraud, who enjoy solving complex problems using data and investigative techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate account hijacking and account takeover (ATO) incidents within the Ads ecosystem.
  • Analyze login activity, IP addresses, device signals, authentication events, and behavioral patterns to determine how attackers gained unauthorized access.
  • Identify the patient zero and reconstruct attack chains to determine the scope and impact of security incidents.
  • Conduct actor-level investigations to identify fraudulent behavior, coordinated abuse, phishing campaigns, and compromised accounts.
  • Perform advanced SQL queries to analyze large datasets and investigate emerging fraud trends not yet supported by internal tools.
  • Process approximately 10-20 investigation cases per day while maintaining high quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Security Engineers, Software Engineers, and Trust & Safety teams to improve detection capabilities and investigative workflows.
  • Participate in incident response activities, including root cause analysis, executive escalations, and postmortem documentation.
  • Identify new fraud patterns, abuse techniques, and AI-driven attack vectors to improve proactive detection strategies.
  • Recommend policy and tooling improvements based on investigative findings.
  • Document investigation findings clearly for technical and executive audiences.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:

  • Fraud Investigations

  • Account Takeover (ATO) Investigations

  • Cybersecurity Operations

  • Trust & Safety Investigations

  • Identity & Access Management

  • Banking Fraud Investigations

  • Digital Forensics

  • Incident Response

  • Strong experience investigating:

  • Account Hijacking

  • Login Anomalies

  • IP Address Analysis

  • Phishing Campaigns

  • Identity Fraud

  • Account Compromise

  • Threat Actor Behavior

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including writing complex ad hoc queries to investigate fraud trends and analyze structured and unstructured datasets.

  • Experience performing root cause analysis and documenting investigation findings.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify emerging fraud patterns.

  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering and product teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Ads, Trust & Safety, Security, or Risk Operations.
  • Experience with Ads Trust & Safety tools and workflows.
  • Experience in financial services fraud investigations, including banking, payments, or identity fraud.
