Career Services Student Assistant

This position is the first point of contact in the Career Services Office. The student assistant for Career Services plays a vital role in communicating with different constituents across campus, as well as in the community. Students are required to have excellent communication skills, pay strong attention to detail, and be able to multi-task.

Specific duties include:

  • Complete various research and benchmarking projects
  • Receive phone calls and messages in a professional manner
  • Welcome all guests to Career Services
  • Maintain the front desk while staff is out of the office
  • Assess student and employer needs and direct them to the appropriate staff member
  • Complete various projects for staff members, such as data entry, event preparation, etc.
  • Update the Career Services Resource Library
  • Oversee Handshake job approval process
  • Manage interview room schedule and check students in and out
  • Review and update resources on the Career Services website
  • First Destination survey data entry, and follow up phone calls to recent alumni regarding their completion of the survey
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills required include:

  • Attention to detail and organization skills
  • Strong computer skills using the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn software quickly with training
  • Effective written/verbal communication; ability to communicate clearly with various constituents
  • Dependability, flexibility, cooperation, and the ability to work independently and within given work schedules
  • Care and concern for students of all backgrounds and interests
  • Effective time management with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Confidentiality and discretion; student assistants are required to sign a confidentiality agreement with our office
