Are you the operator who keeps the mat perfect?
Do you take pride in smooth finishes, clean joints, and consistent head-of-material? If you can orchestrate trucks, fine‑tune a screed, and keep production moving safely, this role is for you.
What you’ll do
- Place and finish stone, concrete, and asphalt on roads, runways, and other surfaces using pavers and allied equipment
- Bring heating systems online: light burners, set screed temperatures, and dial in flow rates
- Control paver operations to push dump trucks and maintain constant feed to the hopper/screed
- Watch distribution closely; flag low areas, adjust controls, and guide the crew to add material
- Compact earth fills and final mats with tampers or by rolling to meet grade
- Handle essential handwork, including shoveling blacktop and detailing edges and tie‑ins
- Operate oil distributors, loaders, and dump trucks; load equipment onto trailers and transport to/from sites
- Fill tanks and hoppers; cut or break existing pavement using hammer‑equipped machines
- Clean/cut expansion joints and rout cracks to prepare for repairs
- Complete daily safety/maintenance checks; clean down machines and secure equipment at shift end
- Calculate and order materials for each job; lay out parking stalls for striping
- Communicate maintenance/repair needs to your supervisor and assist with routine maintenance
- Wear PPE at all times and uphold safe work practices
- Take on other duties as assigned
