What You Will Do

SCIF & SAPF Operations (SSO-2), within the Special and Sensitive Operations (SSO) Division is seeking a Security Specialist 4 to provide security support for Special Access Programs (SAPs) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs). As a Security Specialist, you will utilize your knowledge of applicable DOE-IN, NNSA, and/or LANL safeguards and security policies and procedures, assess operations, interpret policies, and make recommendations for operational and programmatic improvements.

This role requires providing internal and external customer service with a high degree of consequence of error to ensure safety and security of national security interests and facilities. This position will report to the SSO-2 Group Leader and receive direct supervision and instruction for applicable topical areas.

This position entails occasional travel and working non-standard hours. You may be required to be on call for duty at minimum of one week each month (24/7 including holidays). When on call, you must be able to respond to the worksite within one hour.

Minimum Job Requirements:



Security Experience

  • Technical experience in one or more of the major security areas: information security, physical security, computer security, personnel security, classified matter management protection and control (CREM, documents, parts), accountable classified matter management (ACREM, accountable documents), SCIF operations, personnel security, security assessments, and internal tracking of security assessment findings.
DOE Experience
  • Familiar with DOE Orders and LANL requirements as related to Safeguards and Security Programs and experience in DOE security audits and inspections.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOE orders and Intelligence Community Directives regarding SCIF operations.
Communication
  • Ability to prepare and present security and safeguards reports to internal and external customers at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues, as well as internal and external customers. Proven ability to operate in a team environment.
Security Technical knowledge

  • Professional/specialized knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas: physical security, SAP operations, or other high-security activities.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with security functions such as identification of vulnerabilities and assessment of risks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with security functions requiring extensive documentation and data management.
  • Experience conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security and safeguards.
Auditing and Assessment

  • Independently plan, direct, and conduct self-assessments.
  • Proven in-depth knowledge of DOE Orders and LANL requirements as related to Safeguards and Security Programs and experience in DOE assessments and internal tracking of assessment findings.
Safeguards and Security Procedural Knowledge

  • Advanced technical knowledge of DOE Orders for Safeguards and Security, and Intelligence Community Directives.
SCIF Construction and Renovation

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or managing SCIF renovation and construction efforts while ensuring security and regulatory compliance.
Communications and Customer Service

  • Promote and cultivate an atmosphere of excellent customer-service that is responsive to internal and external customers' needs and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
Education / Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of related education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a graduate degree may be desired.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience with one or more of the following: ICDs, National Industrial Security Program Operations Manual (NISPOM) or relevant DOE
  • Orders for Safeguards and Security. Experience working with and administering procedures in compliance with one or more of the following:
  • Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs)
  • National Industrial Security Program Operations Manual (NISPOM), or equivalent DOE Orders for Safeguards and Security operations
  • Previous Special Security Officer (SSO), Alternate Special Security Officer, Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO) experience
  • Previous Program Security Officer (PSO) or Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO) experience
Work Environment: Working off-shift/rotating schedule

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
