Scientist, Complex in Vitro Systems (Lung Focus)

Pride Health / Russell Tobin is supporting a leading biopharmaceutical organization that has a contract opening for a Scientist – Complex In Vitro Systems (Lung Models).

Responsibilities Include:

• Develop, optimize, and maintain advanced human lung complex in vitro models, including airway and alveolar organoids, air-liquid interface (ALI) cultures, and lung-on-a-chip/microphysiological systems to support drug discovery and translational safety.
• Design and execute experiments to characterize lung models using techniques such as cell viability assays, confocal and high-content imaging, transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER), permeability assays, transcriptomics, proteomics, and other functional assays.
• Culture and characterize multiple lung cell types, including primary human lung cells and established cell lines, while ensuring reproducibility and model quality.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Toxicology, or a related life sciences discipline.
• 0–5 years of postdoctoral or industry experience conducting hypothesis-driven research in academia or the biopharmaceutical industry.
• Hands-on experience culturing multiple lung cell types, including primary lung cells and relevant cell lines.
• Experience developing, qualifying, and applying advanced in vitro systems such as lung organoids, ALI cultures, co-culture models, or microphysiological/microfluidic platforms.
• Strong experience with molecular and cellular characterization techniques including qRT-PCR, RNA-seq, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, live-cell imaging, high-content imaging, transcriptomics, and proteomics.
• Demonstrated ability to design experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges, optimize protocols, and work effectively in a collaborative research environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in lung biology, respiratory disease biology, or pulmonary immunology.
• Experience with organ-on-a-chip or microfluidic platforms for disease modeling or safety assessment.
• Proficiency with Python and/or MATLAB for image analysis, algorithm development, and large-scale biological data analysis.
• Experience supporting drug discovery, translational research, or safety evaluation programs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

• Employment Type: 12 months Contract (Possible extension on the basis of performance)
•  Location: South San Francisco, CA (Fully Onsite)
• Approved Pay Range: $50 - $55/hr on W2
