Experience: Paint or Coatings Manufacturing experience is highly preferred. Strong Laboratory experience is required.

Job Summary:

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Scientist to join our General Industrial technology team in Huntsville, Al. The right candidate will possess a passion for development, good color eye, technical acumen, and the ability to process information quickly. Color developments will be utilized to support product design for coating technologies offered in coil and extrusion precoated metal market. The role of Scientist will report to the technology team manager.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility of the color scientist is to create color formulations based on customer requirements and adjust color formulas as needed to meet production requirements
  • Role requires a strong understanding of color theory and the properties of different pigments for matching colors accurately and consistently using a variety of color-matching tools and equipment
  • Role will participate in SPC analysis to improve Right FirstTime color manufacturing
  • Role will prepare samples, make product risk assessments, and be responsible for technology documentation
  • Facilitate transfer of technologies between Axalta color matching sites as required
  • Capable of prioritizing work to meet customer demands and business requirements
  • Adherence to environmental, health and safety procedures is required

Education:

  • BS/MS/PhD Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Coatings preferred
  • Serious consideration will be given to degreed candidates in other science related fields with applicable experience
  • Microsoft Office required, knowledge of VBA programming a plus
  • Pass color vision test
