Job Description:
This position is 100% onsite and laboratory-based at South San Francisco location. 
Candidates must be local to South San Francisco and comfortable with daily commuting.
The initial contract term is one year, with potential renewal for up to three years.
 
  • The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline, with strong hands-on laboratory experience supporting complex cell-based assay development in an industry environment.
  • This individual should bring expertise in cell culture techniques, assay troubleshooting, and high-content imaging methodologies, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced discovery setting. Candidates with prior exposure to high-content imaging assays, small molecule support work, and complex biological assay development are highly preferred.
  • The hiring manager is seeking a highly collaborative, adaptable scientist who is comfortable operating in a predominantly bench-focused role requiring strong experimental execution and scientific problem-solving skills.
  • This role is best suited for candidates who enjoy hands-on laboratory work and technical assay development rather than highly academic, publication-driven, or management-focused career paths.
  • Candidates lacking direct cell culture experience will not be considered.
This laboratory-based Scientist role focuses on developing and executing cell-based high-content imaging assays to support small molecule drug discovery pipeline.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cell biology, immunology, and molecular biology, with hands-on expertise in:
  • Cell culture techniques
  • Cell treatment and transfection
  • Immunohistochemistry staining
  • High-content imaging analysis
  • Experience with lab automation and complex image analysis are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization platforms such as Genedata Screener, TIBCO Spotfire, and GraphPad Prism is a plus
 
We are seeking a motivated scientist with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Relevant postdoctoral experience is preferred.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
 
Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Maintain mammalian cell lines and support routine cell culture operations.
  • Develop and optimize high-throughput cell-based assays for quantification of mRNA expression using qRT-PCR.
  • Develop and execute HTS complex cell biology assays utilizing high-content imaging and image analysis platforms.
  • Perform weekly compound testing to evaluate biological activity and pharmacological responses.
  • Analyze experimental data and communicate results clearly to project teams through presentations and written reports.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree OR
  • Masters degree and 2 years of experience OR
  • Bachelors degree and 4 years of experience
 
Top 3 Must Have Skill Sets:
  • Cell culture techniques
  • Cell-based bioassay development
  • High throughput qRT-PCR assay for mRNA quantification
  • Immunofluorescent staining and High Content Imaging (HCI) analysis
Schedule: Monday through Friday, either 8:00 AM–5:00 PM or 9:00 AM–6:00 PM.
