TITLE: School Treasurer Training Manager

LOCATION: Central Office and Training Center

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. JOB GOAL: As part of part of the Risk Assessment - Student Activities team, this role is

responsible for the planning, coordinating and delivering of comprehensive, financial

training for new and existing school treasurers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Proactively serve as the subject matter expert and point of contact for school
  • treasurers, building principals & support staff surrounding day-to-day school financial
  • operations.
  • Plan, implement and monitor the annual schedule of school treasurers to ensure
  • deadlines are met and financial procedures are followed.
  • Utilize various financial systems and processes to transfer knowledge, ensuring
  • compliance with state & local and district guidelines, while mitigating risk and
  • following best practices. This includes, but is not limited to, executing training and
  • advising on best practices related to school budgets, purchase orders, student
  • activity funds, credit cards & student information systems.
  • Provide clear and consistent training through a variety of methods including on site
  • training, advising, group instruction, written manuals & virtual learning.
  • Ensure accuracy and district level oversight in the areas of check writing, daily
  • receipts, deposits, transfers, sales tax reporting and positive pay functions.
  • Oversee accuracy related to month end expense and sales tax reporting.
  • Self-starter, coordinating with other departments by adhering to standard operating
  • procedures, Kansas accounting policies, applicable laws etc.
  • Develop, implement & maintain training aides such as internal manuals, videos and
  • other resources
  • Temporaarily serve as back up site treasurer by maintaining compliance of cash management functions.
  • In partnership with the Finance Manager, conducts audits of student activity funds.
  • Report any significant infractions or misappropriation immediately to the Director of
  • Risk Management.
  • Upon request, provide information to external auditors surrounding school records.
  • Serves as point of contact surrounding student activity processes, system updates,
  • Treasurer reporting issues (Business Plus, AA Web, Infinite Campus,
  • etc.). Work with vendors & treasurers to provide resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Must have excellent financial acumen, organizational skills, ability to build rapport & technical skills
  • Must maintain a high sense of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality
  • Be held accountable to successfully meet established goals and deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, or related field, or combination of applicable education, training and experience relative to the essential functions of this role
  • Possess a valid Kansas Driver's License, a personal vehicle in good working condition and have the ability to travel throughout the district between school sites
  • Minimum of 6 years of prior related experience. Prior experience in a bookkeeping,audit, payroll or accounting role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of USD 500 treasury functions, financial systems and processes is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Speak clearly and concisely in written and oral form. Maintain communication with all constituents including district staff. Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present

information and respond to questions from internal and external sources.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job is performed indoors in a generally clean and healthy climate controlled environment. The noise level is usually quiet.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all constituents including district staff. Ability to maintain professionalism and respond appropriately in all situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days per year
