Spotsylvania County Public Schools is actively seeking a School Social Worker to serve as a liaison among the home, schools, and the community to alleviate any personal or social adjustment problems which may be obstructing the educational progress of students. This position also offers direct and indirect services to conquer barriers to academic achievement.

Essential Functions:

• Develops an effective working relationship with students, parents, teachers, school staff, and community partners concerned with student welfare. • Provides interagency case management for students. • Case Management and Presentation of cases at FAPT to obtain funding for students. • Interprets to teachers, administrators, and the public the function and purpose of the school social worker. • Works with parents in securing community-based resources to address home-based needs. • Interprets to parents the functions and objectives of the school. • Represents the school division on certain inter-agency committees. • Assists all school staff in identifying the origin of students challenges and adjusting the school environment to allow students to make full use of the educational experience. • Provides and connects students with resources and services to support academic success. • Participates in child studies, special education committee, and school-based meetings. • Prepares, in collaboration with the parent and other interested parties as needed, social history documents including socio-emotional behavior information on students referred to special education consideration. • Facilitates socio-emotional lessons in a group format as needed. • Participates in the School-Based Mental Health team meetings to address students overall needs. • Provides counseling as a related service and social worker consultation to identified special education students and documents progress quarterly. • Conducts necessary crisis assessments on students expressing harm to self or others who demonstrate an inability to care due to psychosis or other acute mental health crisis.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate licenses and/or endorsements as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
  • Two (2) years of successful full-time experience as a Social Worker, ideally within a public education institution, including crisis intervention and case management experience.

Employment Terms:

  • Employment may be offered as a 10-Month, 200-Day schedule at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day.
  • Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
  • This position is evaluated annually.
