Job Description

Essential Elements

Primary Function The School Psychologist is responsible for the provision of psychological services in the schools. The School Psychologist provides services to children, teachers, parents, community agencies, and the school system.

Directly Responsible to SELPA Director, Special Education Services

Immediate Subordinates School psychologist interns are assigned by the Chair, Psychology Services, and child care aides employed in grant projects (e.g., EMH, PIP) through Psychology Services or Special Education Services.

Assigned Responsibilities

  • Consultation with school administrators concerning appropriate learning objectives for children and the planning of developmental and remedial programs for pupils in regular and special education programs.
  • Consultation with teachers in the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate pupil learning and to overcome learning and behavior disorders.
  • Consultation with parents to assist in understanding the learning and adjustment process of children.
  • Psycho-educational assessment of specific learning, emotional, and behavioral disabilities, including but not limited to case study evaluations, recommendations for remediation and placement, and periodic re-evaluation of such children.
  • Psychological counseling of children and parents, including parent education.
  • Consultation with community agencies such as child protective services, probation departments, mental health clinics, welfare departments, attendance review boards, county assessment teams, and youth service agencies.
  • Consultation and the supervision of pupil personnel services workers as assigned.
  • Collection and interpretation of group data to assist the district in meeting its objectives in relation to the districts philosophy statement.
  • Professional growth and development in order to keep current with the latest information on child health, education, welfare, and assessment/consultation services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Personal Must exhibit, through training and experience, those qualities essential to maintaining effective working relationships in the area of Pupil Personnel Services.

Minimal Training

  • Shall hold a Masters Degree with emphasis in school psychology.
  • Shall hold a clear Pupil Services Credential with authorization in school Psychology with a minimum of one year successful internship as a school psychologist.
