The School of Applied Sciences and Arts within the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor for the online Writers Studio First-Year Composition program.

The successful candidate will teach a 44 course load of First-Year Composition courses and have a 20 service component to their contract. The Assistant Teaching Professor will provide service to the program, School, College, University, public profession, and community, to constitute no more than 20 of the assigned workload. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in online writing instruction who understand the unique challenges of teaching writing in digitally mediated asynchronous environments.

The Assistant Teaching Professor position is a full-time benefits-eligible non-tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis, contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. This is a 9-month contract that begins August 16, 2026.

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University delivers applied sciences and liberal arts courses to students from all majors at the Polytechnic and Downtown Phoenix campuses. It has more than 170 full-time faculty who serve nearly 4500 students majoring in career-focused applied-learning programs, including undergraduate applied biology majors in pre-veterinary medicine, pre-dental, and sustainable horticulture, applied physics, applied quantitative science, interdisciplinary studies, science, technology, and society, history of science, technology, and innovation, communication, and more.

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts leads ASUs Writers Studio, which provides first-year composition courses to all ASU Online students. It also offers the nations first degree in military and veterans studies, led by ASUs Office for Veteran and Military Academic Engagement (OVMAE). The OVMAE is committed to the robust support of veteran, military-affiliated, and dependent students. The school is also home to the Latinx Oral History Lab, which offers undergraduate research and storytelling opportunities.

Essential Functions

Teaching

  • Delivering asynchronous online First-Year Composition course instruction for Writers Studio as assigned by the Faculty Head, School Director, to constitute 80% of the course load for the position.
  • Providing service to the program, School, College, University, public profession, and community, to constitute no more than 20% of the assigned workload.
  • Working with Instructional Designers and Faculty Head to develop and implement course curriculum.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching methods and work activities.
  • Applying innovative teaching techniques and delivering excellence in teaching of the defined content for assigned courses.
  • Maintaining active professional development proficiency with course platform and related educational tools.
