Qualifications:
1.Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse
2.A bachelor or master degree in Nursing
3.A minimum of two years of experience as a R.N. in a clinical setting
4.Licensed as a School Nurse by the Department of Education

Job Goal:
To maintain maximum health standards in compliance with Massachusetts State Health Regulations established for public schools.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Conducts assessments (i.e. physical assessment, health screenings, substance use, nutritional, environmental).
- Health Screening results are reported according to district and state requirements (i.e. parents/guardians, school personnel, physicians, hospital and clinics).
- Utilizes (electronic health record) system appropriately to document individual or group assessments and outcomes.
- Maintains current immunization records and keeps health records up to date.
- Assumes responsibility for identification and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
- Follows up on screening referrals in a timely manner and documents completed referrals in student EHR.
- Participates in Student Support Team (SST), IEP and 504 meetings and makes appropriate recommendations for 504s or IEPs based on student health data and needs.
- Demonstrates epi-pen administration, proper use of an inhaler and nebulizers, and testing of blood glucose etc. to students and/or staff (observations and documentation).
- Provides meaningful input for creating individual student reentry plans, implementing short/long term academic accommodations regarding concussion regulations and/or, new chronic diagnosis.
- Addresses all students with respect and provides confidential space for students when necessary.
- Protects privacy and confidentiality of personal health information of students and staff.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness
- Compiles and uploads to ASPEN a list of students with any vital health information such as medical condition and/or medication to all staff members.
- Prepares and submits health and medical reports requested by the school department and the State Board of Public Health.
- Assumes responsibility relating to exclusion of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and school entrance guidelines.
- Address school staff members on student health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health and medical conditions.
- Maintains record of CEU certificates and education programs attended.
- Maintains sufficient PDPs and CEUs for renewal of both RN and ESE licensure
- Shares information learned at continuing education programs with colleagues
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, in accordance with the DESE Educator Evaluation System.
