All Saints Episcopal School School Nurse
Position Title: School Nurse
Reports To: Health & Safety Coordinator
Purpose
The School Nurse provides direct health services to students, promotes student health and
wellness, and ensures compliance with state health requirements. The nurse responds to
emergency health needs of staff when they occur on campus but is not responsible for ongoing
staff health management. The nurse collaborates with families, faculty, and staff to support
student health and safety, while maintaining accurate health records and implementing
physician-directed care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Health Services
Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, medication administration, and
emergency response.
Respond to health-related emergencies for staff on campus (e.g., injuries, acute illness)
and coordinate follow-up or EMS activation as appropriate.
Monitor and manage acute and chronic health conditions among students.
Serve as the primary health resource for students, parents, and faculty regarding student
health needs.
Health Records & Compliance
Maintain accurate student health records in SNAP (or designated electronic system).
Manage immunization compliance in accordance with Texas state law and school policy.
Develop and update Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) for students with special health
needs.
Ensure confidentiality and proper retention of student health records per state and
federal requirements.
Health Information Distribution
Prepare and distribute health cards, IHP summaries, and medication instructions to
teachers, coaches, and trip sponsors as appropriate.
Prepare and provide field trip and overnight trip health packets, including student
emergency contact information, health plans, and medication logs.
Document distribution of health information and maintain accountability records.Education & Training
Provide training for faculty and staff on student-specific health needs (e.g., EpiPen use,
diabetes management).
Support staff education regarding communicable disease protocols and general wellness
as directed by school policy.
Participate in annual training and re-certification as required by school policy.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with the Health & Safety Coordinator on health-related aspects of the
Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
Communicate with parents regarding student health conditions, medication needs, and
illness/injury follow-up.
Collaborate with Division Heads and faculty to ensure safe participation in school
activities.
Boundaries / Exclusions
The School Nurse provides direct services for students and responds to emergencies
only for staff while on campus.
Ongoing or non-emergency staff health care is not within the scope of this role.
The School Nurse does not assume responsibility for safety/security planning, drills, or
external safety partnerships.
Collaboration with Public Health is shared with the Health & Safety Coordinator:
The School Nurse collaborates on clinical and compliance matters (e.g.,
immunizations, communicable disease protocols, reporting requirements).
The Health & Safety Coordinator collaborates on emergency management and
safety planning matters (e.g., outbreak response in the EOP, coordination with
local authorities).
Qualifications
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Texas.
Experience in pediatric, community health, or school health nursing preferred.
Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work effectively with children,
families, and staff.
