Come join our team!

Prince George's County Government provides a dynamic and inclusive workplace where employees can thrive, learn, and grow across its 30 diverse agencies, all dedicated to serving the Countys residents with essential resources and services. Nestled just minutes away from Washington, DC, Prince Georges County combines urban vibrancy with serene surroundings, offering an ideal setting to live, work, and enjoy life.

The Prince Georges County Police Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill multiple part-time School Crossing Guard positions, grade X-13, within the School Crossing Guard Unit for the upcoming school year starting August 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to support communities within Prince Georges County.

This is a highly competitive position. Current vacancies may fill quickly. Once vacancies fill, candidates may continue to be considered for future vacancies that may occur during the school year, and may be added to a waitlist for a predetermined timeframe.

About this Position

This is specialized work that involves the safe crossing of school children and pedestrians and control of traffic at school or other crossings. Work is to prevent accidents and protect the safety of school children and other pedestrians. The incumbent of this class does not have the authority to arrest but does have the power to perform traffic control operations to ensure the safe flow of vehicles and the movement of pedestrians. Employees must wear a uniform while on assignment and work requires employees to stand, walk, and use arm/hand signals, whistles, and voice.

Please Note: Applicants MUST be able to work both morning and afternoon shifts for all scheduled hours between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. AND 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (each week). This position is permanent part-time, and the hours are not negotiable. School Crossing Guards must have reliable transportation to attend orientation, training, and to the work locations. Applicants must be able accommodate schedule changes due to late arrivals, early dismissals and inclement weather changes. School Work locations are NOT assigned according to where you live, and you must be able to work any assigned location within Prince Georges County. Given the nature of the role, with the focus on the safety of children and members of the community, the required work schedule is not flexible.
